The man filming was an idiot for getting as close as he did, and also for holding a video camera the wrong way. What did he think - everyone would turn their monitors on their sides?

Absolutely - never know if they are going to turn and go after you. Just stupid to get that close.

If FL gators are as fast as TX gators, ya have a tough time outrunning one on dry land and worse in muck. Saw one take off after a guy and luckily the guy jumped into a nearby pickup truck bed.

Latest comment: How is that racist? You can't dislike a guy who happens to be black? I dislike lots of them, but not because they're black.

For a moment, I thought no one would bring politics into their responses to this non-political video. Thanks, Taxpayer. BTW it's "course"

This is why when in Flordia I always try to play the fairways. It is obvious the guy filming has never seen a gatror run or leap out of the water in a micro second to grab a dog or goose that wandered too close to the bank. Don't confuse stupidity with bravery. He is lucky that after the wrestling broke off both gators did not opt for the tasty snack standing right in front of them.

I once laid down right beside a 7ft. gator without knowing it. I was running sprinkler pipes through and underneath some bamboo. My wife walks up and screams. I turned over, saw the gator..and did an impossible back spring manuever and next thing i know, was half way across the yard. The gator was as startled as I was, and ran at a gallop to the creek we live on. I have lived in Florida around gators all my life. I have even caught them while fishg with live bait, but nothing prepares you for something like that. It would have been a million dollar (three stooges genre) video.

The filmer was stupid, but I do think he had to have a good zoom on that camera. Isn't it great to live in Florida!!

What exactly do you want animal control to do? They do nothing with gators, they will only call a licensed trapper... either way calling the front office will only confirm what they know which is .. there are gators in Florida... surprise surprise!!

I watched a pair like that here in Royal Highlands and have a picture of one eating the other one. The size of that one is about what I have in the back of our houses. Don't want to get the sucker mad at me??? This guy was way too close for comfort.

I suppose the man filming had some idea what he what doing because, injured or tired, those things still get hungry and can move pretty fast.

Great Video! The Pulitzer Prize is awarded to photographers who risk their life to capture the most precious and entertaining of all moments. No, this is not Pulitzer Prize worthy, but; it is fun, entertaining, interesting, and educational. All-in-all, it’s good stuff!

Hilton Head SC golf courses have gators that are as big as 12 to 14 feet and they can outrun and out jump any human. The scales on their back are so sharp that if they hit your body with it which they are prone to do, it will easily sever a leg or arm. Once they are fed by humans, they become aggressive and dangerous.

Getting that close is beyond moronic! He was plain lucky...he couldn't have outrun either of them if they'd turned to chase him instead.

I appreciate this great video. I read some of the posts on here. Many are very critical and bash the guy for being stupid. I respect the guy for having guts. There are too many men in this world without testicles. And by the way, one should never forget who really is the apex predator in this video. Humans are the most dangerous thing that ever walked this planet. Alligators will typically avoid humans if possible. They retreated to the water not because their contest was over but because of the humans in close proximity. They recognize what we truly are even if we sometimes forget.

Too bad natural selection didn't rid us of one more numb-nut. I really liked it when he turned around and filmed all his buddies who didn't care if he was eaten or not, but maybe they were trying to get that footage too! I was so impressed with his trophy tooth. This guy is pretty not from 'round there.
