Was the Soviet Union ever a religious state, under a religion that dictates that its enemies are considered infidels who ought to be destroyed? MAD may deter someone who seeks only power, but how do you threaten retaliation against someone who believes that suicide is a good thing? Maybe the regime isn't mad enough to push the button, but what if there is a revolution. The trouble is that bigger and bigger weapons are going to fall into the hands of smaller and smaller states, organisations and eventually individuals.

Well with all the rhetoric from Americans about God you can hardly say some of them aren't fanatical.GWBush said he often prayed and spoke to God...too bad God didn't tell him there were no WMDs. As for Iran their nukes are no match for either Israel or America,to think they would initiate a war is ridiculous,it will only happen if Israel and America push them to it.Iran already has a radical religious regime, any revolution there will be more moderate but it will still hate Americans because of their long standing interference in Iranian affairs, among others. DON't fall for the same propaganda as Iraq!

It may well be that the window Israel has of a pre-emptive strike has already gone, and that so many civillians would die that it is politically unviable. So, maybe we'll find out.

Israels smokescreen of playing the victim while stealing land in the West Bank is getting old. -- Iran should start using the Israeli playbook; make demands that Israel open Dimona up to inspectors and threaten to bomb the Israeli nuclear site if they refuse.

So wait...Fareed Zakaria became a US naturalized citizen in 2001 and we're supposed to relate to his views on the US during an era he never lived through? Give me a break. I wonder what his take is on the India and Pakistan nuclear situation.
