Astronomers, welcome to paradise

(5:34) One of the best places to view the night sky is on the Paranal Mountain in Chile's Atacama Desert. This is where the European Southern Observatory (ESO) stands. The Atacama Desert is the driest place on Earth, the skies are free of light pollution and the high plains enjoy long stretches of steady atmospheric conditions, allowing astronomers to peer deep into space without the worry of turbulence distorting the data.
