The Young Turks look at Finland's revolutionary education system

(5:26) Finland's education system had been performing very badly, amongst the worst in Europe until about 30 years ago, when they decided to completely rethink their approach. Ironically, inspiration for many of the changes came from research in the US, which contributes about 80% of the world's education research.

50% of that is not true. I'm finnish. Kids go to kindergardens and preschools here also, its just not focused on competitive education. Doctors and lawyers earn about a 1/3 or 1/2 more than teachers. We have private schools, but they are as free as public ones and guided by the public system. Tax rate for a person earning 6000e is 50%. Put education and healthcare are allmost free for everyone.

bear in mind that this post was aimed at american viewers! I would not fair well when commenting in Finnish, as indeed you have perhaps not done so commenting in English. Not a criticism, just a viewpoint!

That's cos you do not have a 5 minute attention span to watch the video and also probably, because you are educated in the American way!

to be fair, the video is 5 mins long and it happens at the end so his attention span is at least 5 mins.
