What does an electric car sound like? What does an electric car sound like?

(2:02) Electric cars are silent. Tyre and wind noise don't make a great impression for a supercar. So Audi are creating their own sound for the all-electric Audi R8 e-tron. Yet again, the future has arrived.

I'd love to have the sounds of a fast car braking and screeching tires. You get more attention with that sound than one that is of a car accelerating (smile).

glortman hit the nail on the head. It's not so much about the driver, it's also about pedestrians used to hearing cars before they see them...

Sound is an important safety feature for other motorists, pedestrians and animals. It helps to more accurately judge distances and velocities.

Making Cars louder is totaly nonsense. Modern cars driving at normal speed in a city are very silent, and no one is talking about rising up their sounds these days. sry my english. those motor sounds, we knew these days as a very manly thing will be so out of fashion in 10-20 Years. After all electric engines can be very lout when they age. Thats a waiste of money there for Audi.

Here's something to consider. People who are blind, rely on the sound of cars (traffic) to determine when to cross an intersection. There have been many many accidents, particularly with the blind, with electric vehicles coming onto the market. Next time you try to cross a street, put on a blindfold. I'm sure you'll then appreciate having sound coming from cars!
