AirPod, car that runs on air

(4:58) Amazing affordable car that runs on air. In 2007, Motor Development International (MDI), the developers of AirPod, signed a licence agreement with Indian company Tata Motors to produce and sell 'air' cars in India. Development of this agreement is still in progress.

Latest comment: Compressing air produces heat so you could compress the air at home and heat your hot water tank for free at the same time, all on off-peak electricity. Liquified air would give a longer range.

What about safety? If you get hit and it ruptures the air tank, what happens? Can you run the airconditioner off compressed air? What about the brake lights and headlights, horn, and other electrical systems? When you run out of air, where are the refueling stations located?

I'm going to guess at the answers to your questions, it looks safe to me, no less safe that a Smart car or a Mini, if the tank ruptures you have an air leak, as opposed to spilling petrol all over the road, electrics would all work off a generator and battery combination, just like every other vehicle on the road, you could refuel this from a small electric compressor in your garage at home, or take a small compressor with you and plug it in where ever you are.

Is this going to be brought to the US? If so, when?
