This is a man who has been there and done it, for real. He speaks from his personal experience and will probably be branded 'unAmerican' for it by people who have never been put in harm's way in their lives.

Biased opinion, He must have had a bad experience. The Iraqi people wanted the states and anyone else to help them. Other countries ask for help. Are we supposed to sit back and watch people who are being killed by their own people and begging for help. If everyone just sat back and did nothing unless their country was directly threatened, IT WOULD BE TOO LATE!! Do we wait until the rest of the world is run by dictators, until rouge states are lobbing nuclear bombs at us?? future threats are something that needs dealing with before they arrive at our doorstep, humanity is something that the more powerful countries need to apply. I know there are those who will always say it's all about oil. Cant stop them from saying that. BUT it is far far more than any one thing. There are thousands upon thousands that thank the states and its allies for helping them, We are not killing innocents on purpose, They are! The worse serial killer has family that loves them.... So what? I dunno what this guys problem is but he is wayyyyy off base! I wonder how many of you would not blame your government for not doing anything to stop a threat before bombs started dropping on them? Open your eyes, look around you at the world. See people killing each other by the hundreds of thousands. Africa and the Middle east are a murdering shambles.. Does any one really want to wait until that comes here? Do nothing, and it will!

PS... There are thousands of US Special Forces personal that do not hold the same opinion as Master Sergeant Stan Goff. Please don't take the words of one man as gospel.

Naturally; armies couldn't function if everyone in it went around thinking about the big picture for themselves. Imagine, shortly after 911, if the army had called Bush and politely refused to invade Iraq due to a total lack of evidence of WMD or involvement in 911? All super powers have played these games in the past and its no different now. To imagine armies are always deployed on purely humanitarian criteria is naive.

Whatever your beliefs, we have to concede to his viewpoint. He talks from direct experience, Do you? You claim bias, yet your comment is filled with didactic propaganda rather than any objectively considered evidence.

Actually, Yes. I have direct experience. And What I said is not propaganda, Its a mixture of first hand knowledge, common sense and fore sight. How can you say that my opinion in not from objectively considered evidence? 9 years of special forces 23 years military total, gives me the right to make informed opinions about the US military and its objectives. Been to some of those places, talked to those people..... I am not trying to put this man down. His service to his country is greatly appreciated by many. What I am saying is, I think he has soured toward the US Military for whatever reason and what he is now saying about national defense makes no sense. We cannot sit back and wait for the trouble to come to our doorstep. It would be too late by then. The American, British, and many other countries populations would be understandably upset If our governments waited until we were attacked on out own soil to do anything.

Yes, but it's interesting we only seem to help "people who are being killed by their own people" when they have something we want (USA, UK, wherever). I don't see the liberating forces of the West queueing up to overthrow Robert Mugabe

Did join up, Did 23 years, Please don't tell me I don't have a clue, You don't know anything abut me. You say your mate got shot etc...Did you join up? When you lower yourself to swearing at people instead of stating your different opinion, it takes away from the validity of your statement and makes you sound unintelligent!

You have your own opinions, but seem very naive. You question "what this man's problem is" and state your opinion that "he is way off base". Personally I don't think he has any problem whatsoever. He is stating things he has experienced and expressing his point of view which I believe is valid. Do you honestly believe the US is some world police force helping the little guy.....FFS.... wake up and smell the flowers

It would be honourable for a man who dies trying to defend his family, from certain death. But if he went out looking for people to kill and wreaks havoc in his neighbourhood, then he WILL be removed! His number will be up soon. Likewise the USA, under the 'terrorism' guise, has killed MILLIONS with no end in sight. The people employed to do this task, can do so under strict training, but when most of them return to normal society, they realise their actions and then Kill themselves or go into a hole where they do not want anything to do with anybody else. They too have 'died'.
