Is homosexuality unnatural?

Is homosexuality unnatural?

(4:14) What does it mean when people call same-sex relations "unnatural"? John Corvino gives his views on the matter. John Corvino is a writer, speaker and philosophy professor at Wayne State University in Detroit. He is co-author with Maggie Gallagher of 'Debating Same-Sex Marriage' (Oxford Univ. Press, 2012).

This man thinks that everything is natural otherwise it would not exist. To him murder and phedophillia are natural activities because they are part of human nature.Stupid arguement..If all men turned to homosexuality then as a race we would die out. Not so for hetrosexuality. How can it be natural if it is against the procreation of man..It is acceptable because like many malformities in humans we do not persacute those who are different. But natural? No.

I don't think you were listening very carefully. His point is that whether it is natural or not is irrelevant, because simply being natural is not a good basis for morality. As you say yourself, murder etc is natural too. Next, if we were all gay we would die out. True, but so what. It's a non-sequitur. If we were all celibate we'd die out. I don't hear you arguing against priests. I don't hear you saying that everyone *must* procreate. I've had a vasectomy. Is that allowed?

Great explanation. Personally the idea of the physical side of male homosexuality actually makes me feel sick, but hey so does the idea of people allowing dogs in their house. Yuk! It's not that I'm right they're wrong it's just personal taste. Being a hetro male obviously means I am unable to fathom what the homosexual finds attractive, pretty much to the same extent that I'll never know what it's like to give birth. And I feel the argument is as base as this, that for a straight person to condone a homosexuals activity is reflective of their detachment from reality as well as of their delusional state of ignorant fear. All together, a well put case by John Corvino.

For those who don't know or think otherwise, gay animals are common. From Wikipedia: "…homosexual behavior, not necessarily sex, has been observed in close to 1500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them." This is according to research done by Canadian biologist Bruce Bagemihl. If you don't believe me, google it.

Latest comment: Not who you think..I can accept your argument..I must admit I am not 100% sure of my own viewpoint as it is such a complex subject. I wonder where we would be if we did not have the wonderfull contributions to mankind by 'gays' like Tchiakovsky. Maybe we should all learn to just accept the complexaties of this world.

Everything that occurs in the natural world is..er.. natural. It is therefore 'within' nature that things like homosexuality, murder an paedophilia exist among ours and other species and since these are not dominant phenomena our species will prevail. But maybe due to the way our species has evolved that we have found ways to hasten our demise thru nuclear annihilation, over-population, pandemics or irreversible climate change - its all 'within nature'.
