I am totally in agreement with DDG's philosophy. The problem with personalisation is that you never learn anything outside of what you already know and like. Why would I be searching unless I wanted to learn new stuff? Heck, I don't even tell the weather website what my location is.

Actually, I prefer the way Google works. If they collect personal information to reorganize the search results to be more relevant to me, I'm all for it. So if I search for "blah" and it shows me results that are from my local area first, that seems better in my opinion. So a problem with DDG is that I don't know which of the results are being provided because they paid DDG for placement. With Google, I know which ones are sponsored.

Latest comment: That's fine when it comes to ads, but the real issue is when it comes to anything that involves an opinion. Then you get a bunch of stuff that agrees with you rising to the top of the first page. It might make you feel good or vindicated, but it does nothing to promote a wider understanding of our increasingly complicated world.
