Piers Morgan was attempting to use England's low gun murder rate as justification to take US guns away. That tactic doesn't work because a country that has a low gun murder rate does not automatically create a link between number of guns owned and the number of gun murders. You can look at Israel as a good example of a country with a high gun ownership and a low gun crime rate. Besides, in the UK, you have murderers killing people with knives like Jack the Ripper and then being protected by the state so the murders go unsolved for over a century. And, you could say that because people in the UK do not own guns, other crimes such as rape are higher because people cannot protect themselves. In the US, that might end up being a gun related killing because the rapist gets a bullet in the face while in the UK, you just get raped and cannot do anything about it.

That's not the point I made now is it? It's a well known fact that England has fewer homicides by guns and I doubt anyone is disputing that. However, that statistic does not create a link between the number of gun homicides and the number of guns owned by the citizens. There are other countries that have guns too and you can look at them as other examples. Then, you completely ignored the fact that the UK has more robberies and rapes and you could make an assumption it's due to the lack of guns to protect yourself that is the root cause of their other crimes. You also did not address the increase in knife related instances in the UK. From January to June, there were 29,613 knife instances which is very close to the US gun homicide rates but the UK is much smaller and that was half a year. LINK

Cengland0 before posting such ludicrous figures. I would like to draw to your attention that overall violent crime in the United Kingdom has fallen year upon year through the last decade and beyond. Violent crime according to the Office For National Statistics fell by 4% last year. Homicide rates fell by a significant margin 14%. Domestic Abuse crime figures have almost halved. As of June 2012 that figure of violent crime had reduced by 6%. In 2013 similar trends have shown areas of the UK have seen crime figures actually drop. So so much of your assertion that the UK is a hotbed of violent and sexual crime, It is simply not. You also say 29,613 recorded offenses is close to US homicide rates. Lets be clear on this figure police in the UK can stop and search you if you have a knife in your possession you can be arrested on that alone. So those figures can go some way in demonstrating that some uk nationals have been arrested for simply carrying a knife. Thats how tough it is in the UK. "Piers Morgan was attempting to use England's low gun murder rate as justification to take US guns away. That tactic doesn't work because a country that has a low gun murder rate does not automatically create a link between number of guns owned and the number of gun murders." Excuse me that is quite frankly the most absurd comment on gun control I have ever seen. To say you cannot demonstrate the link between countries with gun control to others that have very little is wide of the mark. Its proven that states with tougher gun laws have far less gun crime to those who do not place more stringent controls. " with knives like Jack the Ripper" Oh that's right lets equate a 19th century killer with contemporary British society. Clutching at straws there. " And, you could say that because people in the UK do not own guns, other crimes such as rape are higher because people cannot protect themselves. In the US, that might end up being a gun related killing because the rapist gets a bullet in the face while in the UK, you just get raped and cannot do anything about it." More sensationalism from Americans here I see. Again violent crime has been decreasing in the UK year on year for more than a decade. And I bet you did not know since the peak of crime in the 1990's crime figures suggest a whopping 50% reduction since the turn of the century. So much for this "violent" Britain you are painting. Regarding the video, Alex Jones just goes to show why a significant proportion of US Nationals cannot have a reasoned debate about the subject of gun control. Morgan despite his faults has very good points. Reducing the capacity for people to own high caliber and high capacity firearms which in all honest they don't need. Removing loopholes and the one that really also stands out is putting more money into mental health services for people to get the support they need before committing crimes, Adam Lanza a case in point. If anyone thinks that these steps are unreasonable needs to really take one good long look at themselves. If those 100,000 people decry better mental health services for people in the US. that want mental illness to be ignored go ahead. To continue to place very few restrictions on high caliber weapons which can do great harm, go ahead. A key to a truly enlightened approach is to show compassion for those 100,000 people have shown very little compassion nor common sense. They harp on about the 2nd amendment the right to bear arms, but forget the 1st the freedom of speech is that the only "crime" that Morgan has committed in the eyes of some people in the United States. By a basic questioning of the continuing validity of the 2nd Amendment. States need to evolve to even question the basis on which they were formed. If citizens cannot even question these terms then it calls into question the democracy on which they were formed in the first place. Morgan is correct and has asserted his right to evoke the first amendment, regardless of the nationality of birth. He has that right under US law. If any American came over the UK they would be afforded the same rights. Keep drawing attention Mr Morgan and for those who say deport the man, get a grip of yourselves and go and actually read the basis on which your country was formed again then you will realize how silly this really all is look at the response from the White House. "it is worth remembering that the freedom of expression is a bedrock principle in our society." WH Spokesman Jay Carney. It shows what the White House think on the issue, Morgan will not be deported, and he is perfectly entitled to freedom of speech.

So to summarize your rant, you are basically admitting that your crime rate is high but it's decreasing. Well, ours is decreasing too -- five years in a row. LINK So that means you're okay with us keeping our guns now, right? Morgan could be deported but not for the issues you think. To work in the US, he has a Visa and that will expire. As I understand it, this Visa limitation caused problems as he got new roles since they are usually limited to working for one employer for the duration of the Visa. Anyway, back to gun control. You obviously are brain-washed by the media. They want you to believe that the problem is with "high caliber" weapons and guns that can have large magazines. The statistics prove otherwise. In fact, most of the murders -- including the mass shootings -- are performed with simple hand guns and not the large rifles you want to ban. This is simple logic due to the inability of hiding such large weapons when attempting to sneak them into a theater or school. Also, if you're in close proximity to your victims, it's much easier to grab the barrel of a longer gun and take it away than it is a smaller gun. Since you're in a country without guns, you obviously haven't been trained on the proper use of one and how to use it for defense so I understand your ignorance in this matter. As for me, my preferred weapon is called "The Judge" because it shoots 410 gauge shells containing lots of little pellets and 5 huge disks. The weapon is not intended for long range so I am not risking it going through my house and hurting someone on the street. It's made for close quarters and I don't really need perfect aim with the 410 shells. I also have the option of loading it with Colt 45 shells but those require more accurate aim which might be a problem in a hurry situation and under pressure and stress. My 9mm gun is better for long range but not as powerful as the Colt 45 shells. Different guns are used for different purposes. Those with large magazines are used to defend yourself from riots like the one in LA that we had after the Rodney King trial. These things happen and you want to protect yourself when the police cannot do it for you. Do you think the police wanted to be out in the LA riot especially since it was the police that was found "not guilty" and the root cause of the riot? I live 3 doors down from a policeman and I still do not trust that he would be here in time if someone broke into my house in the middle of the night. You only have a couple seconds to do something about it and by the time the police got there, the event is already over.

Actually read someone post before posting something that does little to move on a rational debate. Read my post before commenting our crime figures are dropping year on year for well over a decade. So the picture you paint of the UK as a hotbed of violence does not actually exist. The average person does not need high capacity rifles to protect their home, do people need the capacity to empty a 100 bullet magazine to protect themselves in short NO! . Morgan is not suggesting the removal of all guns but the ones with the highest capacity to do harm. Its not an unreasonable suggestion and many americans will support him in this. It seems your happy , people can access high caliber guns to run amok in schools, colleges and Universities to unleash such violent acts upon humanity. If the United States does not resovle these issues then they will contuniune and inocent people will die as a consequence. If people like you and others who are so opposed to anymore restrictiuons on guns, think thats a cross you are willing to bear. Then all hope is lost and you are consigning your country to more violence and more UNESSARY death. The people of the United States deserve better . For record Im proud I live in a country that does not have many fire arms in circulation, UK nationals are not ignorant at all we are all well educated about the power and consequence of firearms. Go and look at the Dunblane massacer in 1996 and the reason why we feel so strongly, unlike the United States the then Labour government took steps to protect uk nationals and put in place stricter gun laws. We are certainly not ignorant we just appreciate the true exent of the harm they can cause. Go and listen to the gun lobby, who are seemigly unable to offer a clear proportional and jusitfiable direction who blame everything on others and not themselves. Mr Morgan we dont as British nationals say this often if at all about you but stick to your argument.

If I'm not mistaken, Piers cannot own one because he is not a US Citizen. People who were admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa are ineligible to own a gun. And he says he doesn't have any bodyguards but I believe he's lying. Many celebrities less controversial than Piers have bodyguards and he is not allowed to carry a gun himself so it's highly probable that he really does have at least one. Alex even said that he saw some.

I normally really don't like Piers Morgan but this was clever. Great restraint on his part and exactly the right way to deal with nut jobs like this, just get them out in the open, set them going and let them burn themselves down.

I think Alex Jones does a lot of good for the liberty and freedom movement, but even I can admit he came off as kind of crazy in this clip. He is obviously very passionate about freedom and it must be very frustrating to look into the eyes of someone who seeks destroy everything you are fighting for and not express your anger. His message is true but his delivery weakened the message, and in MSM the only thing that matters is delivery. As long as it sounds pretty and colourful people will eat it right up.

Violent video games brought up again...what a clown. Way to reinforce the rest of the civilized worlds stereotype of America Alex Jones - LOUD, FAT, IGNORANT, SELF CENTERED, MENTALLY CHALLENGED. The land of dream and opportunity - No more. Now - The land of debt, obese, mentally challenged.

Does Alex Jones have guns? If he does, was he vetted and given a psychological profile test? From this 'debate' he comes across as a total loon! It is very scary if Americans listen to people like him.

The Septic's are mad. Work out the % of gun crime per capita and you will see that the US is MUCH higher than the UK-the US also has a rape % double that of the UK not to mention the knife and violent crime. Septics really are brain washed and that idiot shoed them for what they are pillocks

Your stats are wrong. I didn't want to spend too much time looking up last year's figures but I posted them recently somewhere on boreme. Anyway, here's an article that shows the UK is much worse than most other countries. LINK You can lookup the most recent stats and see them for yourself or just read my posts from the last few days to find it. Besides, if the violent crime doesn't kill you, your hospitals will with the C. diff issues and patient stacking.

Guatemala! Forcibly infecting prisoners with herpes? And fabricating evidence about Communists? USA is severely ****** up. Good job you're just a paid shill. If the stats about ant-psychotic drug use in USA are true and people truly believed the propaganda you're pushing then zombie land is an accurate predication of how the USA is going to cope with the decline of oil. Get a real job, and a psychiatrist!

You forgot to mention Jack the Ripper as part of your evidence that UK (with few guns) is more dangerous than USA (with lots of guns)

I used Jack the Ripper in a previous discussion to illustrate that without guns, the murders still occur but are performed with different killing tools such as knives.
