Wahoo and Umbrella

Wahoo and Umbrella

(1:46) Wahoo and Umbrella were code names for two underwater nuclear tests conducted in 1958. Cameraman Pat Bradley, who photographed these events, recounts his experience on the island as the explosion took place.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of any slow deaths to marines from these tests. Where did you find that? If true, I'd feel sorry for those people too.

....and members of other corps used as guinea pigs in hundreds of tests above and below ground in the Pacific and Nevada just after the war. Atrocious and callous attitude of the military towards the lower ranks - they knew what they were up to and even if you were in the army at the time, what choice did you have??? Lets just hope that the MAD principle holds out for Israel / Iran.

Thx for the Mail link (shocking stuff), I was initially referring to the 'Curtiss Atomic Marines' LINK who were involved in the testing of hundreds of bombs in the Pacific and in Nevada. Its hard to feel sorry for the ones who suffered ill health and death as a direct result of their 'work'. Also not so good for the many thousands of U.S. citizens who contracted, mostly, Thyroid cancer downwind of Nevada and New Mexico in the two decades after the war.
