Midway, located in the middle of an ocean of garbage

(3:55) Midway Island, an uninhabited 2.4-sq-mile atoll in the North Pacific Ocean, more than 2,000 miles from the nearest continent, is the home to 67–70% of the world's Laysan Albatross population, and 34–39% of the global Black-footed Albatross. But this tragedy is much more than just about saving birds. Plastic doesn't biodegrade, it breaks down into smaller and smaller particles that at some stage become invisible in the ocean, like dust.

Latest comment: Powerful images. Trawling for floating plastics would be costly clean-up given the recycle value of mixed plastics is about three cents per pound. Sans economic justification, the birds are doomed.
