Chinese straddling bus design

(5:04) Bus designer Youzhou Song presents a concept for a giant bus that straddles the street so cars can pass underneath. Following a boom in car sales, China's major cities are suffering from extreme traffic congestion. Less costly than a subway, the electric behemoth will carry up to 1,200 people in a carriage raised above the road. Uploaded to YT in 2010.

What a stupid idea - when it goes around bends over stationary cars, it assumes that the cars are all in the correct position in a lane. What if one is too close to the outside of the lane? oh yes, it gets hit by the bus. what about if there are roadworks... or if a lane is closed... the bus can't move on... bloody stupid idea.

Interesting that the video was originally posted to YT in 2010, and that the presenter says that construction will begin by year end and that 40km of straddling bus can be built in a year. It's 2013 now so that means 120km of straddling bus should be running in Beijing....anyone actually seen this? more info, but no update... LINK

lol. The most advanced escape system in the world is a slide....did the inventor forget about, I dunno, ejection seats or ship lifeboats? What happens to the bus after an accident? I'd love to see the tow truck that can move a segmented vehicle thats 4 units long and 4.5 to 5.5 meters tall!
