If a religion is a meme, and (by natural selection) only beneficial memes survive, then it is logical that only beneficial religions survive.

There are fewer religions and gods today than there were a thousand years ago. Maybe in a thousand years time, religion will be a thing of the past.

Also, he compared religions with a virus. It is not logical that the most beneficial Viruses will survive, it is logical that the ones that adapt to the new defenses survive. Religion(irrationality) evolved along side science(rationality) for thousands of years, it would be hard for me to imagine a world without some kind of religion. Actually no, it would be easy to imagine that but it would be a Utopic fantasy; it is much more likely that cults and religions will merge, change, evolve as time passes. I don't think you can have reason without irrationality, it would make no sense, it would be like having day without night... we wouldn't even acknowledge the concept of Day. Just a thought. But as medicine develops and creates vaccines and cures for preventing virus infections and action plans to prevent pandemics, so will science and reason. Religion, just like a virus, will still exist... somewhere in the shadows... just waiting for the perfect conditions to reappear. Just some of my thoughts.
