Everyone seems to be forgetting the much lower COG on the VW, also the fact it's 4WD and has low range gears. Everyone knows American cars are s**t.

the US truck is much more powerful but it was in RWD mode and the back axle wasn't loaded (too lite on the back wheels, not enough traction) and it doesn't have traction control; also the tires are for rough terrain and not tarmac. The VW was in AWD, tarmac tires and traction control, but not as much power and torque as the US truck. 10 sacs of cement in the back of the US truck should have fixed that problem.

perhaps, but the weight is in the front where the engine is. The back axle remains very lite and since it's RWD there's not enough traction. And don't call me Shirley... :)

Stupid American design. Driver too far forward. If he rolled his seat back a bit, that would have given him the traction needed.
