$30,000 seems a bit expensive for a 100 square foot house especially considering that doesn't include the land. In Florida, you can buy a 1400 square foot house with the land for about $100,000. The Nomad is $300 per square foot while a regular house is only $71.43. Remember, that's with the land and the land is usually a very expensive piece of the housing equation. Everyone has probably heard of the three most important things that cause the house prices to increase and that's location, location, and location. That McDonalds woman with 4 kids would be better off buying that $100,000 house instead of the $30,000 shed.

Sorry, but I don't believe you can build a house for $71.43/sq.ft. I built my own house 15 years ago for approx. $70/q. ft...and I don't think the cost has dropped since then. If you can buy a 1400 sq. ft home for $100,000 where you live, then your real estate market must be in the toilet. And they didn't say $30,000 was the cost...they said "UNDER $30,000."

Perhaps you have been living in a cave. Haven't you heard of the housing market crash? What about what the Mayor in Richmond is doing because of the people who bought houses when they were worth twice as much and now they are upside down on the mortgage? I also see you fell victim to Marketing techniques. If you go to their website, they say $25,000 plus tax and shipping for their cheapest model. What company in their right mind would ever advertise a $4.95 product and say it's priced affordably for under $100? Of course they are going to say it's under $5. That's business 101. And doing a quick search, the first house I found is only $37,980 for 1448 square feet. LINK That's even cheaper than I thought it would be.

Latest comment: you completely missed my point...but nevermind. I don't have the time to beat my head against the wall of someone who can't see past the tip of their nose.

That is very cool. I like the idea of the challenge of living that simply, but am not yet sure I could do it. We are slowly downsizing, but maybe we need to be more radical.
