Zak Ebrahim, the son of a terrorist

(9:14) Like father, like son? Zak Ebrahim was seven years old when his father helped plan the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. This is his story of how he came to realise that there is a better way. TEDtalks 2014.

This is someone that I applaud for standing up and denouncing terrorism. It took guts to denounce his own father. I wish more Muslims would do the same.

It's easy to denounce terrorism. Most people denounce terrorism. You do. I do.

Zak Ebrahim shows that son doesn't always have to follow father. What's really interesting is that he changed because his experience was contradictory to what he was taught. For example, he was taught that homosexuals are a negative influence on society, but his experience was that they are some of the kindest and least judgemental people he'd ever met.

Point is, he didn't change because he was told he was wrong, he changed because reality clashed with his beliefs.

So when Israel bomb Gaza the way they do, the experience they inflict on Palestinians exactly matches the already deep hatred for anything Israel, therefore perpetuating and re-enforcing it.

That's why bombing and blaming the Quran will never result in a peaceful world.

Agreed. What goes around comes around.

Putting theory into practice is hard though: after I'd been burgled, I really wanted to kick some thieving bastard's arse
