I've always used repeated bending whenever I want to easily snap some metal to pieces. Wouldn't feel good in such waters on such a bending metal vessel.

If designed correct it is more like a spring. Think of a leaf spring in your car. It bends repeatedly under load with no breaking.

Thanks for the perspective. I can visualize the core as a spring but not the skin of the vessel. Wouldn't the rivets or welds suffer heat fatigue from the flexing?
