Pope Francis: Freedom of speech has limits

(0:25) Following the attack on Charlie Hebdo HQ in Paris, Pope Francis said that although reaction should not be violent, freedom of speech does have limits including insulting people's faiths.

Who cares what he thinks anyway! and what's that all about "you cannot insult the faith of others"!!! YES YOU CAN, and in fact everything should be questioned, scrutinised, examined, poked fun at and tested that’s how we have progressed and advanced. If there is anything, be it a science hunch or a religious belief etc., that cannot withstand a little bit of "testing" (often called "insulting" where no facts exist) then surely this indicates it needs looking into again because the initial idea or assumption may be a little ropey and have a few holes in it.

We don't have complete freedom of speech. For example, we have libel and hate speech laws. So do we need new laws to prevent people offending different faiths? Of course not.

The issue is not freedom of speech. It's whether murder is an acceptable reaction to being offended.

he's right! if you insult people they might react violently, and the muslims did feel insulted.

But the use of violence, in the modern world, is against the law, unless it's for defending the physical integrity of one's self and of others when a physical attack has started or is indubitably about to start. The specific details may vary according to the jurisdiction you're in at the moment.

The questions: are insults part of free speech? when should an insult be illegal? if certain insults should be illegal, what should be the legal course of action that one must take in order to proove that one got insulted and what should be the punishment? who decides what is insulting at what is not?

Conclusion: we need a ministry of insults in any modern state.

Alternative conclusion: fu*k the pope and nuke the sand-ni**ers.
