Saudi historian: Women should not drive in case they get raped

(2:23) Saudi historian Saleh Al-Saadoon said that women should not be allowed to drive on the grounds that they might get raped if their car broke down on the roadside. Even better was his solution to protect women from their chauffeurs. Saudi Rotana Khalijiyya TV, January 11, 2015.

What an idiot. Saudi women should stay off the road not because they will get raped if they break down, but because they are _bad_ drivers. The only silver lining is that would-be rapists are likely to be run over repeatedly before they get the chance to commit dastardly deeds.

Well, there's your problem. Allowing a representative of a religion with views and opinions stuck in the middle ages to speak on matters that are relevent in the 21st century. One thing he said puzzles me, though. If these women (whom he says are revered so much) have female chauffeurs driving them and the car breaks down.......aren't there then two women to rape? Or wouldn't the roving rapists, who apparently prowl their roads, touch a woman of their own faith if another is available?

This is hogwash of the highest order.

I think he mentioned foreign chauffeurs. He doesn't care if foreign women get raped, just not their own women.

You're right. I neglected to use the word 'foreign'. You are also correct that he doesn't appear to value women from countries outside his own.

This guy is unbelievable. What an utter moron!!! Maybe they should fully castrate all Saudi men so they can chauffer their 'Queens' around without the threat of rape. And maybe they should do the same to all male muslims who go to Saudi for the Hajj?

I'm surprised not all women in Saudi Arabia are lesbians.

How about just training the young men to value women and to be law-abiding citizens, then punish the guilty severely if they violate the law? Why continue to restrain innocent women? These backward societies must have very low opinion of their young men.
