Many people had the foresight and wisdom to plant trees long ago so they and their families could sit in the shade but the govt. said "you don't own those trees, they belong to everyone" and bit by bit there wasn't enough shade for the family, let alone everyone else so those with the wisdom and foresight stopped planting trees or planted them some where else and in the end there was no shade for anyone...except the the govt. of course they have their own trees which are bigger than everyone else's and specifically for them and no one else can access them...but they're working for you!

Government planted trees (build infrastructure, educate a healthy population, maintain law and order, etc.) long ago so businesses could thrive.

This was paid for from taxes, and the costs are ongoing - infrastructure always needs modernising to remain competitive - education, health, law & order, etc. are all increasing and ongoing costs.

Many big businesses today don't want to pay their share to plant trees for businesses of the future. That is what Warren Buffett is getting at.
