He may have changed the way eBay transactions occur but he did not change banking. I don't know anyone that has a Paypal mortgage, a Paypal checking account, a Paypal car loan, or other banking type services through that company.

He also didn't change the automotive industry. The majority of the cars are still gas and not Tesla. Tesla is a small company and only sold 140,000 cars since 2008. In 2008 alone, Ford produced 5.532 million cars.

That's like saying in 1910 that Henry Ford didn't have any impact because there still were more horses than cars. As usual, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Bad analogy. Ford did not invent the car, it was Karl Benz. Ford had the moving assembly line and even that was an idea from Eli Whitney (along with interchangeable parts). I know interchangeable parts were used before both Ford and Whitney but he gets credited for it because he promoted it and made it popular. Ford, as far as I can tell, invented nothing important. He did install the first moving assembly line but he didn't create the idea.

And Elon Musk has not invent the electric car, he is merely making it avaliable to the masses. Much like Henry Ford did with the automobile. Analogy: 1, COncernedCitizen: 0.

He did change banking! They have to contend with so many aspects of online payments, due to the Paypal phenominon. You can get get a loan, credit card and a checking account with Paypal. The Automotive industry has been forever changed by Tesla! He gave away all his patents with all the latest tech for the World to share and progress. We now have more hybrid cars and the World is moving towards electric cars. as Tesla said, he wants everyone to use renewable energies and make it available to all. He does not only provide the World to progreess with his ideas, he does it for free, after having to pay a highj price for it. After doing all this -How many people you know who pay themselves ONE DOLLAR a year?
What did you do - to qualify you as a critic? I know some people see the glass half full - but yours is empty!

Even with a Paypal Credit card and Paypal checking (Which I don't think really exists), that does not change banking. ATMs, direct deposits, paperless mortgages, and others have changed banking more than Paypal.

I still disagree about Tesla changing the automotive industry. Which car do you have? Is it even a hybrid? Even if it is, those have been around before Tesla cars. Once electric car sales exceed gas car sales, then you cannot say that it changed the automotive industry. It has only a minor impact at the moment. The driverless Google cars are doing better than the computer assisted Tesla cars.

Doing all that stuff for free doesn't mean he changed anything. Makes him a nice guy and all but that's it. I do have a paypal account for making my eBay purchases and I do agree that it makes those transactions smoother and I mentioned that it was good for that but that's it. I don't use paypal for anything else. Period. I accept credit cards but I use Square for that. No transaction fee and a 2.75% per transaction. Paypal takes 30 cents per transaction and 2.9% for eBay transactions.

I am a computer programmer too -- just like Elon was. That's what makes me qualified to be a critic. Anyone that uses his products, services, or any competing technologies are qualfied to be a critic. He's a nice guy and all but has not changed the world. He's worth 9.4 billion so he can afford to be paid $1. If I had 9.4 billion, I would do more charity work too.

Where did I quote from wikipedia? Whenever I do a direct copy/paste from somewhere, I always include quotation marks. I don't think I used any in this thread.

Steve Jobs changed the world more than Elon Musk. I see so many people with smart phones and tablets than I do Teslas. People are glued to their phones today and have become more antisocial than ever before. He created the Apple TV and now there's the Chromecast, FireTV, Roku, WD Live, and other similar devices. He was the first to use a mouse in the operating system and now all desktop computers use them.

The MP3 player put record and CD businesses out of business. It started new businesses like the google play store and Amazon Prime Music. The Apple App Store was very innovative allowing anyone to create a program and sell it through a single marketplace. Now Android and Windows have the same technologies.

If Elon Musk was never born, my life wouldn't be any different than it is today; however, without Steve Jobs, I might not have the career I have today. He has definitely changed my life to the better.

Colonel Sanders has changed my life to the better. That doesn't change the fact that Elon Musk has done a great deal to influence the direction the world is heading. And he is still young, no doubt we will see more from him in the future. Sadly we can't say the same for Steve Jobs, nor Colonel Sanders.

You're a computer programmer like Elon Musk used to be, Cengland0. You should know this stuff.

Were you able to buy Xerox OS for your computer? According to Wikipedia, "By 1972 there were 35 XOS installations in Europe, compared to 2 in the US." Not ready for any home computers.

I am very familiar with how Xerox technology was used in Mac OS. Xerox invited Jobs to view their OS and he took that concept and incorporated it into his system. At that time, Gates and Jobs were friends so he called Gates to showed him what he had done and Gates then took that concept from Jobs and copied it.

WIMP is a concept, not an OS brand. Windows and Mac OS are both WIMP operating systems.

Who said Steve Jobs "was the first to use a mouse in the operating system"? You did, Cary.

Now, are you going to acknowledge you were wrong or will you try and move the goal-posts? Your call, Mr "I was a programmer like Elon Musk"

If you would just look at the over-all message of my comments rather than trying to score points on insignifcant details you would do better. OK, no Steve Jobs was not literally the first person to ever use any mouse in any operating system, as I said. Give yourself a sticker. However, he was the first person to popularize it and to make it standard with home computing, and that actually supports my point better than what I wrote the first time. In other words, he changed the world far more than Elon Musk which was my whole argument.

I think you're obsessing over me. You're desperate to quibble the tiniest point just to boost your self-esteem a little. You're clamoring to prove a usage of numerous names. You need a hobby.

Calm down and take your medication. You need to stop projecting so much about your low self-esteem and need for a hobby, it will only cause you stress.

I know how important logic and accuracy are to you (especially as a programmer) so I thought you'd appreciate the feedback when you go off piste.

I am not on any medication. Why are you so infatuated with me and my posting? It's really odd. Why do you care so much?

The logic and accuracy of my argument remains. Jobs has had a far greater effect on our lives than Musk ever will. You twisting your nickers over the finer detail doesn't change a thing. Is that as close as you can get to 'beating' me these days? Maybe you could correct my spelling as well if it will make you feel a bit happier. Wuold you liek that?

"Beating me these days" - did I beat you before?

"The logic and accuracy of my argument remains. Jobs has had a far greater effect on our lives than Musk ever will." Do you have crystal balls too? How far into the future can you see then?

At 45, Musk had achieved a huge amount. Who knows what else he might do if/when he puts his mind and wealth towards yet another project.

No I don't have crystal balls, I have regular balls that give me the confidence to share an opinion and you just can't bear it. I can even have opinions about the future! My opinion is that because of the time when Jobs was around, he was able to be at the forefront of one of the greatest technological breakthroughs ever for the human race, and he played a massive part in steering commercial computers into home computing and on into mobile telephones, both of which are an inextricable part of our daily lives.

When did I say Musk hadn't achieved a huge amount? When did I say might not do even more if he puts his mind and wealth towards it? Quit playing with your Aunt Sallies. I just said it's my opinion that as a comparison, Jobs has done more than Musk ever will.

I think you did miss something. Look closer at the message you replied to.

What has Musk achieved? He got rich and that's about it. Trump is rich too but he didn't change the world either. Just because you are rich doesn't mean squat. Warren Buffet is rich but he didn't change the lives of millions of people. Musk also hasn't changed the lives of millions of people.

Bill Gates seems to be doing a good job helping 3rd world countries get vaccinated and doing good things for poor people. I can see benefits from what he does. Musk is just another car producer that made a small amount of cars that doesn't even come close to competing with Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Kia, Mitsubishi, or any other.

Maybe he will make a difference in the future but you're assuming he will. I am not assuming anything and basing my judgment on facts that are available now.

It's a bit of an impossible argument. We will only know the answer when he finally pops his clogs, then we can compare his lifetime achievements with Steve Jobs'.

All I'm really saying is he's 45 years old, has PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX under his belt, and he has a lot of wealth to develop even more projects. Who knows what he might achieve in the next 10, 15, 20 years

A lot of people like what steve jobs did. I don't but thats ok.

What he did has absolutely no effect on my world at all since I don't agree with anything apple sells or promotes.

The inventors of Unix have been most influential and have a far greater effect on peoples lives than those who stole the tech and used it to get rich.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are great business men and that is all.

Perhaps you know better.

No, that's OK because it didn't say anything about Musk changing banking either.

Yeah, but Musk didn't disprove Cengland0 (and all his other IDs) is a disingenuous prat.

Oh, wait a minute - the video didn't say anything about COncernedCitizen being a disingenuous prat.

Something else about Elon Musk. He was born in South Africa so why doesn't he go back and run his businesses from his own country? Why not Canada? Why would someone come to the USA to run a business when all you people in the UK think this is such a horrible place? I know many people from Canada come to the USA to make it big like Kevin O'Leary and Robert Herjavec.

Our talk shows are being infested with hosts from the UK. Don't you guys have TV over there? Why don't you take back John Oliver, Craig Ferguson, James Corden, and Piers Morgan? After making the big money over here, they wouldn't want to go back. Even Gordon Ramsay came to the USA to make it big.

I think a lot of Brits work in the USA because of the finely-tuned sense of irony displayed by most inhabitants - plus the opportunity to engage with mighty intellects like yours.
