Knowledge that New Orleans dikes would fail in a hurricane surge upon discovery that southern Louisiana sank 8+ feet from sub-soil extraction of oil, gas and water were ignored years before Katrina and even during the rebuild of New Orleans.

Ironically, Washington DC and Baltimore will also suffer some degree of submersion along with New York, Houston, San Francisco, Miami, New Orleans and Portland.
