Human population through time

Human population through time

(6:24) It took 200,000 years for our human population to reach 1 billion, and then only 200 years to reach 7 billion. But growth has begun slowing as women have fewer babies on average.

I think this shows there is a great need for Planned Parenthood and Pathfinder for responsible family planning!

Just about every problem we face regarding humans and the earth can be solved if the religious leaders of the world get together (cough) and collectively promote two children per couple. The current dogma is "breed". It is obvious there are too many of us. We can't have mass executions or wait for a virus. We need to collectively take a mature approach. Governments can't do it as it would lead to mass revolt. The only thing that the masses will take unquestioning heed to is religion. The fate of our future is up to the handful of religious leaders. They and they alone can make the change. Human salvation is the forefront of all religion after all. So will they do it? Fat chance. The Earth as we have known it for 10,000 years is f##ked.

I believe there is a strong correlation between living standards and fertility rates. If we were able to increase the living standards in the third world their fertility rates would surely approach the fertility rates of the developed world. This is something in which we all can take part through charity, politics, etc. Relying on religious leaders to fix the world has never been a wise approach.

I totally agree. It will never happen because brainwashing children is the only way a religion can continue its existence.

Imagine a world where until the age of 15, religion is only encountered with in history class at school - and after 15, religions could proselytise as much as they wanted. How many 15+ year olds would convert to Sunni Islam, or Catholism, or Mormonism? I think very few.

Personally I would choose Atheism with a pinch of Buddhism.

No one likes to admit it but we are all brainwashed. Atheists are brainwashed into atheism (I was at school), we are brainwashed into beleiving in Santa, into eating with a knife and fork, into beleiving in justice, into beleiving individuals matter, and a million other things. Its just if we agree with whats being brainwashed or dont see the harm then we dont call it that.

I don't mind admitting I'm brainwashed. I call it awareness of my personal development (something I once lacked tremendously and had to work on).

You see there is this thing called myself. And other than my physical body, myself is a mental construct I created and have been working on ever since I was born. It only exists in my mind.

All of the influences in my life - emotions, thoughts, experiences etc. - went into the creation of myself. But I wasn't really aware that I was the one creating it.

So I would react to certain things and not understand why. I didn't realise that I could look at why I reacted throughout my personal history and develop an awareness of myself outside of myself. Well, its a work in progressive.

Trying to get me to correct your deliberate spelling mistake?

Still playing childish games I see.

Good, good. I look forward to some more word soup.

How about looking at things from the perspective of what 'argument' is the winner instead of 'who' is the winner?

Then talk to me about maturity.

Have you just accused me of what you've done? Last time I checked I had more upvotes than down. Just wow.

But anyway, you are the wiener, because you're the only one playing (and the only one that can't see that).

Correction to my previous comment:

I thought you meant my orignal comment about being brainwashed. But now I see that you mean my response to your second childish response.

No I didn't upvote my own comment 'frantically'. Just once. How many times do you upvote your comments?

But now I see that you thought I meant votes on a message when I said 'winner'. I didn't.

I meant attitude in general. Its so funny that you didn't understand that. I'm not surprised though.

Bet let me tell you something I've learnt by interacting with you - engaging with an immature idiot that only sees what they want to see is in itself immature.

Goodbye.

"[...] brainwashing children is the only way a religion can continue its existence."

I hadn't thought of it in such stark terms, but yes, I think you are right.

You would find it very difficult for religeons such as Catholisism to say two children only. These religeons get their money from the populus (?). Less people = less money. It is in their best interests to keep the population high.

The poorly educated people tend to give more money as they do not question. A bishop tells them something and they will, by and large, believe it.
