It’s scary that intelligent and well-minded people like Reich can get so delusional. Problem is not Trump, but the way in which American system works for last 20-30 years.

Using his list you can make same argument about Hillary:

1. Media - propaganda

2. Scapegaoting – Russia, hackers

3. Lying - for some reason, she lies constantly

4. Vindictive - yes she is

5. Family - she is a wife of former president, and his position was major stepping stone in her rise to power.

People forget that Obama didn't win because he was black; he won because he had powerful message and charismatic personality. Idea that Hillary should win because she is a woman is simply idiotic and she lost twice to prove it.

She also has bigger hands and longer hair.
Neither is metric for deciding who will be president of US.

And you didn't address the issue that Hillary is autocratic.

That's the thing, she didn't win.
Getting popular vote in US is like being the most beautiful athlete, cute but irrelevant.

Who told you that US is a democracy, media maybe?

US is a republic, with democratically elected representatives. It has rules on how those representatives are elected. If you don't like it, change the rules, at least start talking about it, but talking about victory in some irrelevant category, as something important is childish.

Obama won on merit, but was heavily restricted by Hillary in his presidency, only affaires of his administration came from Hillary.

Now disprove that Hillary isn't autocratic.

hahaha you have a canadian level of dumb.. you GOTTA be canadian. super naive and wet behind the ears. fyi a republic with a representative democracy is a form of democracy of course so someone getting 3 million more votes than the president is NOT irelevant OR childish. its something that has gotta be taken into account. usa has never been more divded. dumb ass i cant prove or disprove hilary is autocratic and you cant prove or disprove trump is autocratic. its a value judgment you retard.. but trump sure shows some hall marks of authoritarian already. your lucky that we arent like you.. we can actually answer questions!!! live and learn conservatard.

You want to discuss and you don't know the difference between republic and democracy. :)
Well, if it is important, why isn't she the president?

So does Hillary. You should ask yourself, why was the choice between two autocrats?

oh shit you mean you didnt know that a republic with elected officials is a type of democracy? here read this "This is commonly called representative democracy . The process of choosing is called election.[2] Elections are either held periodically, or when an officeholder dies." its on the simple wiki page for you LINK your welcome. today you learned something!! :)

yes of COURSE popular vote is important. you know there is more than 1 important thing dont you? just cos it doesnt dictate the presidency doesnt mean its not important.. college votes is what decides the president.. popular vote determines the mood of nation and there attitudes.. still important. hahaa typical canadian views with your foreign dictator who doesnt respect the mood or attitudes of the nation.

HAHA you started this argument by whining about obama. now your just comparing it to hilary who has never even been president. just try to follow your own argument for more than 2 comments

You should read your link, and try to find a word republic.

In other words irrelevant.

I said that Obama won on merit, not bullshit.
In last post I said you had a choice between two autocrats, Hillary and Trump, why? Isn't there someone less power hungry in US?

your right. it doesnt say the word republic. shit i have to teach you something else? i guess simple wiki is too advanced so listen up.. you know that in the link number 2 said "The people elect their leaders." i thought you may know but in the republic of the usa.. they elect there leaders. thats right. you know that election thats just happened? thats because the republic is called representative democracy because they elect leaders . ok now? all part of that type of democracy. if you got questions just ask.. its pretty fking simple tbh.

now no one is saying a popular vote decides who gets the presidency. but in most democracys (maybe not the canadian colony of the english) what the people think is still important. it sure as hell aint irelevant. if trump cant address that most of his country men voted against him hes gonna have major issues.

now why dont you man up and reply to bob and the vid. you said that obama is a good example of authoritan activity. not hilary. you already admited he didnt appoint relatives so you failed on point 5 of 5. have a go at the other 4 i dare you. this will be fun.

:) They teach you that in media school? Even the fact that person who got majority didn't win, can't stop you. :)

Trump has power, with or without issues, and Hillary doesn't, so irrelevant.

I never said Obama was a good example, he may have been weak president, but that is for history books. I did say that Hillary is autocratic in first post, and that she even used her influence in party to influence Obama.

interesting do all canadians struggle with the idea of democracy?

it really aint difficult. not all republics are democratic but some are.. the ones that elect there leaders like the usa. read that simple wiki link i sent and tell me the words you dont understand. china is a different type of republic its a socialist or communist state. it doesnt have representative democracy . its only as democratic as canada but at least china are ruled by chinese.

the popular vote isnt irelevant because it shows the will of the people. its only irelevant if the will of the people is irelevant.. like if you lived in a british colony under an unelected foreign power. get it?

How can something be relevant and have no real effect?

nice try dumb ass. if you could read you would see that I wrote.. "oh shit you mean you didnt know that a republic with elected officials is a type of democracy? " BWAHAHAHA owned again! :)

it was you who sugested that usa wasnt a democracy just because its a republic. you have clearly changed your mind now so i am glad i have taught you something. thats a big deal for a canadian trying to understand politics.

and you think the will of the people has no effect? geez thats tragic. i would hate to live in that kinda colony. i guess to you every survey or every poll ever done is irelevant too. in civilised democracys the people matter and there opiinon is the popular vote.

No, my claim is that republic that elects its officials is not the same thing as representative democracy, and you haven't said anything that contradicts my claim.

So far you said that republic is subset of democracy and later that democracy is subset of republic. :)

HAHA!! this is hilarious. where did i say that all republics are a subset of democracy? so retarded!!! no.. what i actually said is "a republic with elected officials is a type of democracy". period. thats a fact and an easy one too. and no.. what YOU actually said is that the usa is not a democracy. glad your having a rethink and changing your point. i showed you a wiki page that describes representative democracy.. clearly matches the usa republic. BOOM! boreme schools the conservatard again. :) this is so eeeeasy

if you didnt know that usa elects its leaders (unlike canada) then thats not my problem. if you didnt know that a state that elects its leaders is a representative democracy then you should have read the simple wiki i sent. cant make it simpler for you than that. maybe find a kids encylopedia.

so funny that you pretend i said republic is the same thing as representative democracy. you can never handle peoples arguments so you make up what they say. its ok. just admit you were wrong. sure the usa has problems with its politics but saying its not a form of democracy is super retarded even for a canadian royal servant. this time i dare you to use the words i actualy write. dont just make it up. tricky huh but its how adults and non retards debate.

"china is a different type of republic its a socialist or communist state. it doesnt have representative democracy" = democracy is subset of republic

"a republic with elected officials is a type of democracy " = republic is subset of democracy.

It's hard to break years of indoctrination.

And this is not verbal game, republic and democracy work differently.

oh god. i will try to dumb it down even more.. a republic is the name for a state that is governed one of many ways. democracy is one way. there are other types of state AND other forms of government. NEITHER is a subset. they are just different ways of categorising something. never mind i have a simpler example just for you.. there are such things as yellow fruit. there are also other things that are yellow besides fruit.. and other things that are fruit beside yellow fruit. it isnt that yellow fruit is a subset of fruit.. or that yellow fruit is a subset of yellow things. they are just different ways of categorising things that sometimes overlap. I CANT SIMPIFY THIS any further for you. jesus. maybe you should stick with sitcoms from your governing country

"a republic with elected officials is a type of democracy " = republic WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS is democratic. why cant you read those 3 words? its like your blind to them. yes republic and democracy are different things and yes work differently however as SOON as you have citizens voting for ELECTED OFFICIALS in a republic then it HAS to be a form of democracy. it is not direct democracy but it is representative democracy. get it? please just say you do. just pretend.

clearly it really IS hard to break years of indoctrination. i guess you struggle because as a canadian royal subject you have never really tasted elected real democracy.. you can elect who you like but having a monarch means that you have an unelected foreign aristocrat like the queen able to make arbitrary decisions without the consent of parliament.. even getting rid of them if she wants.. and taking your taxes too. theres no one in the usa to do that. thats right.. the usa with all its issues and idiots is MORE democratic than canada will ever be! deal with it! i mean omfg a british colonial talking to me about democracy and indoctrinisation!!! irony overload

There is a form of government, separate form republic, which is called democracy.

Many of its principles are attributed to republic that has elected officials, but are not present in functioning of such republic.

definition of democracy: "system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives :" definition of republic: "state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives "

i know its got tough words in but did you spot the common ground? no? try elected representatives . thats right so as long as the usa are electing there presidents through voting they have a form of democracy and so long as you are ruled by an unelected queen we are more democratic than you. man up not all of us in the 21st century are still ruled by unelected tyrants. british kool aid tastes good does it??

Ultimately the problem is the American system, but Trump is the immediate problem. It's like having a bad skin rash caused by stress. You can alleviate the rash with creams, but it will come back if you don't tackle the stress.

How would you change the system?

Two big problems are lack of mobility in leadership and integration of public and corporate bureaucracy, especially in financial sector.

More abstract problem is that US isn't really sure what it wants, there are too many contradictions for coherent action.

I'm interested in ConcernedCitizen's and Irv's reactions to this.

Is Reich overreacting, or do you think he has legitimate concerns about the state of democracy under Trump?

Are you saying the Obama administration ticked the same list?

Bypassed the press

Denigrated the press

Scapegoated

Lied

was vindictive

appointed members of his family?

Vindictive doesn't adequately describe the propensity for hitlery's former friends to decide that life just ain't worth living.
