And if you get caught n one Never swim against the current, It should be obvious which way it is taking you so swim calmly at right angles to the current. As you can see they generally do not go too far and once you are out of it you can try for shore.

I've been drift diving, which is scuba diving in a strong current. It was terrific fun. So, it should be possible to have fun in a rip current too, provided you know what's what.
