They cheer, as the Saxons cheered when they saw Viking dragon ships glide into their fishing bay, as simple Eurasian farmers cheered when the dust of Mongol war ponies appeared on the horizon, as the villagers of middle America cheered when a troop of Conquistadors came clanking down the path. They smile, knowing that the friendly drone circling high overhead represents the suspicious stare of a distant stranger. They smile, knowing that their moment on the world stage has arrived, to play a brief part in a confused, pointless, bloody drama starring powerful, wealthy men far away, acting out pathological fantasies of avarice and ambition. Don't they?
