America is superior to all other nations when it comes to the Navy. And the Navy isn't so stupid that an aircraft carrier doesn't know where it is in the ocean and thinks a lighthouse on land is another ship. That is stupid to even think that is possible.

Ships have white, green, and red lights. Depending if the green is on the left or right, you can tell if it's coming toward you or away from you. Lighthouses have a white light that flashes or goes in a circle. Nobody that has any experience on the water would make a mistake like this. Even buoys that have lights for navigation have green for port and red for starboard while entering a harbor.

Big numbers don’t matter i.e. Americans might have loads of hi-tech ships but if stupid people are running them and in charge (let’s not go as far up as the Chief of Command Trump jeez) it going to end in tears. EVERY single war America has been in they have lost! WW1 and WWII is a bit of grey I concede, but I for one don’t count wars where they joined in at the last minute when every other allied country had been fight for many years, and on the knees, for then to shoot the last German (well last few) as a win – more like taking the credit I’d say. Vietnam! the only true independent war that they had to fight alone – well what happened there with your big ladeda best in the world navy? at least they don’t line their naval ships up in nice straight lines and tied up together for a big display and vanity reason any more now do they (wonder why?). As for D-day pah! If you dont read books (assume you are american right?) then you must have seen Saving Private Ryan? the wonderful US navy missed their beach by 30 miles with an horrendous cost of countless lives – If Churchill had an army left he might have said “No its ok chaps we got this one thanks anyway”

Lost every war. WTF? What do you consider a loss then? We won Vietnam. We won Korea. We won Iraq. We won WW 1 and 2.

We saved your asses in WW 2. You couldn't finish it yourself so, once the Japanese bombed us, we entered and finished it. But before that, we had USA personnel fighting in the RAF and French equivalents as volunteers.

As you noticed, we liberated France during D-day. Many of our people were killed for the better good of the planet. We could have done nothing but it was the right thing to help our allies.

Britain was conquered by the Romans and was occupied by them until the 5th century. They only left because Rome wanted their troops elsewhere. That was about 367 years you were occupied by the enemy. In the entire history of the USA, America has never been conquered by any other country.

And don't forget your viking invasions and occupation too.

YOU TROLLIN!! HAHAHAHAHA you won Vietnam!!! That's absolutely hilarious! Oh god I just gotta let that set in!!! You had your backsides handed to you by some backwater commies with antique weapons, and we've been giggling ever since about your military prowess. Korea? Oh god are you actually that dumb? They are still officially at war today! And you won Iraq!? AHAAHAAAAAA. Did you know you lost more sailors through your incompetence last year than you did in Afghanistan in the same period? We're petrified.

Whole of Europe knows you were too scared to come and fight in WW2. You only waddled over once you realised you weren't even safe where you were and that the Japanese could come and whoop your asses in your back yard. The Brits picked a fight with fascism before a single bullet was fired against them, in contrast to the usual USA strategy... join a war when someone else has already won it for you. Honestly we don't like Russia much in Europe (we don't even let them pick our leaders) but we can admit it was them who saved Europe in WW2 (and paid for it) and while our cowardly cousins from across the Atlantic drank covfefe and gave themselves medals. You were too scared to join in WW1 too until the last minute. Will you be brave enough to join WW3, or will you decide to start it yourself, now you've figured out cowardly ways to fight by destroying huge civilian populations?

Are Brits supposed to feel defensive about pre-Roman civilisation? We ARE Romans, we ARE Vikings, we ARE Normans. That's why British and European societies have been the origin of nearly all modern culture, including yours - because we assimilate and grow and learn. We don't wipe out the inhabitants of a country, claim it as our own, and stand at the border feeling scared about 'intruders' lynching anyone that looks different. Diversity is a good thing... guess you haven't figured that out yet. That's why you deserve a leader like Trump, and why the rest of us get to laugh about it

Oh dear, where to start. You must be an idiot because you haven’t researched the topic to hold an intelligent conversation about it and just put “AHAAHAAAAAA” as some sort of proof toward your stance. That means nothing. Show me the proof of a loss, not just your laughing.

On March 29, 1973, the USA troops left Vietnam because a peace treaty was signed. That’s all we wanted and it was done. North Vietnam lost 1.1 military personnel while the US only lost 58,000. But after the treaty was signed and we left, North Vietnam violated the treaty and attacked Saigon and was renamed Ho Chi Minh City. But note that this is after the war was already won and the USA troops left.

The Korean war ended in 1953 without a peace treaty being signed but a Korean Demilitarized Zone to separate the North from the South was created and that is still in operation today.

Next was the Iraq war. That ended in a couple days with Saddam’s military completely eliminated. The USA then started a non-war rebuilding project to get their infrastructure back into working order. The non military people kept attacking the USA personnel while we were trying to help them. We do not go to war to occupy countries and take their land away. We are giving it all back to the people. We captured their leader who was tried by his own people and hanged. That’s what I call a win.

Regarding Afghanistan, that’s not really a war against a country. Afghanistan is an ally. Our invasion was to remove the Taliban from power. It’s a war on terror and spans multiple countries. We captured their leader in Pakistan, for example. This is sort of like the “war” on drugs. It’s not a war against a particular country but is something you will need to fight against forever.

If you think the USA lost Iraq or Afghanistan, then you have to think that Britain lost too. They were in both wars as well.

You go to war to install puppet leaders that might stabilise valuable assets such as oil, or that keep your other enemies at bay on your behalf. You know you can't do it on your own, so you depend on governments such as the UK to back you up, and because trade is important they usually buy it, literally.

Mostly your strategies backfire because they're planned by the type of flag waving short sighted morons who wouldn't even realise Vietnam was a failure, and you end up creating a power vacuum that breeds a new terrorism that was far worse than what you had before. Then you end up electing someone like Trump because you're running scared from the monsters you created, you desperately want to hear that you might be great again, and you're hoping a wildcard gamble arranged by Russia will change things. Good luck with that.

Vietnam, my laugh wasn't proof. The proof is recorded history, try Google, it isn't a secret. I don't need to research, I have a non-American education... the world was watching. You didn't want Vietnam to fall into the hands of the scary communists. Remember Bay of Pigs? Cold War? McCarthyism? No? Cut to the chase, boohoo, you failed, your 'superior' army lost to amateurs who sent you packing, and 'Nam has been a one-party communist state ever since. Good work! Even worse, you left the North to utterly destroy your former 'allies'. US cowardice, incompetence, and 'loyalty' summed up in one momentous defeat. I guess you're lucky the VC didn't have boats or you would have lost even quicker.

Anywho, don't stress yourself with this complicated stuff. If you've got to this point without ever realising that you lost Vietnam in the most pathetic way, then there's no amount of facts, data or articles that I can present that will convince you. Don't worry about Afghan, Iraq, Iran, Korea etc. We'll just all have to accept that even by American standards, you're incredibly poorly educated. And that's saying something.

If you think we lost Vietnam, then I don't know what you consider a win versus a loss. Please enlighten us.

You probably weren’t even born yet. As for me, I had to register for the draft around that time. Those were scary times when the government forces their citizens to fight for a war most people didn’t believe in. Completely different story if we were being attacked on our own land, we would all take up arms to fight that war but to fight on foreign land to stop the spread of communism, that was something we didn’t care about.

Before we left Vietnam, a peace treaty was signed. Look up the Paris Peace Accords. That’s all we wanted. How can you possibly think that’s a loss? And, like it was stated before, Vietnam lost 1.1 million military personnel while the US only lost 58,000. This was on their land where they had the advantage. That is one of our guys for 20 of theirs. Which isn’t bad considering the enemy was being supported by Russia and China.

We aren’t discussing Bay of Pigs or the others. We are discussing wars you thought we lost. Now you’re trying to weasel your way out of it.

So please tell us what your criteria is to say a war was won versus lost.

We consider a win where you achieve what you set out to, and where you weren't humiliated by a low-tech fighting force, and where you weren't forced to go home with a consolation prize, allowing the country to be taken over and controlled by the very people you were fighting. You're genuinely an idiot. If the Nazis had taken over Europe and offered you a peace-deal, no doubt you would have accepted and called that a victory too? For a coward, anything to stop fighting, right?

Literally everyone knows it was about the threat of communism. Something you didn't care about? Google McCarthyism or ask someone smarter than you. The USA has a history of trying to prop-up anti-communist dictators and of being terrified by the 'red under the bed'. They had a theory about the domino effect, just like Korea, and with France out of the picture you desperately didn't want the communists and Ho Chi Minh to take control of Vietnam. Too bad.

Of course at first you were too scared to fight, and just funded the anti-communists. That didn't work, so you were forced to go over and actually get your hands dirty... but whenever you make cowards and incompetents to fight under commanders that don't understand defeat, you end up with an embarassing mess.

If you're gullible and naive, you can pretend you joined the war in order to nobly protect the anti-communist South Vietnam. But even then, you completely failed, they were destroyed and communism ruled. In Saigon, they had to watch as the yellow-bellied Americans ran away to leave them to their fate. Disgusting cowardly treachery, even by Yankee standards.

Sorry to break it to you little guy, but your enemies won. They took over the whole country and your allies were destroyed. You spent over 950 billion dollars getting your asses kicked, and it has gone down as the most humiliating military defeat in recent history.

I see you’re resorting to name calling. That’s indicative of someone speaking out their ass without any basis to back themselves up so that’s all you have left - name calling.

We set out to have peace between North and South Vietnam and a treaty was signed. Mission accomplished. A Win. It’s as simple as that.

If there is any humiliation about the war, in my opinion it’s because we shouldn’t have been there anyway. We shouldn’t attempt to save other countries. If someone attacks Britain, oh well, it’s not our loss. And then, we did lose many of our soldiers. Vietnam lost 20 times more but we still don’t want to lose a single soldier if we can help it. But that doesn’t determine a win or a loss. For example, we lost a lot on D-day when we liberated France but the mission was accomplished there too. We won.

No, I don’t care about communism. Each country is free to choose which economic and political model they wish to follow. I live in a country that’s democratic and capitalist so why should I care what North Korea wants to do within their own country? Answer is, I don’t.

Yes, the USA has a history of trying to get rid of communism but what does that have to do with the definition of a loss or a win of a war? You’re trying to change the subject again.

“If you're gullible and naive, you can pretend you joined the war in order to nobly protect the anti-communist South Vietnam” No thanks. That’s not a war I felt strongly about so there was no way I was going to go on my own accord and only go if I was drafted. I wasn’t drafted so I was safe from having to fight in a war I didn’t agree with.

“yellow-bellied Americans ran away to leave them to their fate” What the hell are you talking about? Why don’t you do some research on the peace treaty. We were bound by the treaty to leave so we left. We didn’t run away, in fact it took a couple years to leave. The treaty was signed on January 27, 1973 but our exit was from 1973 to April 29, 1975. I don’t call that running away.

Using insults is the sign of speaking out of your ass? Scroll up. You were the first to use the word stupid on this page. Whoopsy. I've met and worked with a number of Americans and my other half even has some in her family... not one doesn't know they lost Vietnam. Sorry kid, but in my world that makes you an idiot. Get over it.

Joining in late to WW2 is pretty pathetic, but at least the allies had achieved our goal. Heck if you want to tag along and give yourself medals when you only lasted two thirds of the war that the rest of us fought, whatever... Europe knows the truth. It paved the way for the cowardly and glory-seeking reputation of US troops. But there is no way you can reasonably argue that you didn't get humiliated by losing Vietnam to the communists. It was exactly what you didn't want to happen.

You didn't set out to get a peace treaty. You set out to stop the so-called domino effect that JFK was worried about (Google it), you were already humiliated by the Bay of Pigs invasion. You wanted to prevent the communist take-over of a non-communist country and you failed, while spending billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives of your countrymen. I am not changing any subject, we're discussing why failing your objectives is losing a war, and your objective was beating the communists. You're right, you shouldn't care about communism. But you did, a hell of a lot, and most of you still do, because you're scared of it.

Read up on how you left Saigon. Read up on how the helicopters evacuated your cowardly Americans from the embassy and left the South Vietnamese (many of whom were your employees) to their grim fate. One of the largest armies in the world running away, leaving their allies to die in the streets. Disgusting. If that doesn't make you feel ashamed then nothing will.

PS when I say Saigon, I mean Ho Chi Minh city. They changed its name to honour the communist that beat you. Remember?

Try reading history not watching Hollywood.

Google "Fall of Saigon" and explain to us how this was a victory for the USA in Vietnam.

Check out LINK to correct some myths about D Day (Only 50% the troops were American, 15% of the ships, 20% of the landing craft).

Compare German casualties on the eastern and western fronts before realising it was actually the Russians who won the war.

But congratulations on committing genocide against the native Americans. I'll concede that you really beat them

We're all very impressed at the US navy. With excellent training and state-of-the-art technology, I guess only a fool would believe that the USS Fitzgerald could hit a container ship (hard to spot I guess) and lose 7 sailors, or that the USS John S. McCain could collide with an oil tanker (barely noticeable really) and lose 10 sailors, or USS Antietam could run aground, or the USS Lake Champlain could hit a fishing boat. Not bad for a single year. How are you defining 'superior'?

Once the USA is done teaching the world about how to do 'politics', perhaps they could train us how to use binoculars... or is it only Admirals with that kind of skillset?

So you think the number of accidents or deaths that occur in an armed force has something to do with it's capability? The US Navy is so much larger than any other that it's bound to have more deaths and accidents. Just like if you add more cars on the road you'll have more accidents. The US has more carriers than all the other countries combined and they are much larger ships too. There is no competition.

Think of it this way. The USA has had 4,491 deaths in the Iraq war. The UK came second at 179. See the difference? The US military is so much bigger than the UK that you cannot compare them based on accidents or deaths. The British army has about 80,000 full time and 26,000 reserve soldiers compared to USA's 1,282,000 full time and 801,200 reserve soldiers.

But what you can do is determine who would win in a war between the USA and UK. The USA already won two against Britan. Once in 1783 and then again in 1815. If those two countries fought again, it would be a 1-day war and the UK would be decimated.

Of course numbers of accidents are linked to both ability and capability. Don't you think the US Navy has better equipment for avoiding accidents (capability) and more rigorous training (ability)? Apparently not. Must be pretty backward then.

OK let's assume you're right, the technology and training that helps them to avoid gigantic ships (and lighthouses) is no better than a small navy. Well the Russians have perhaps a quarter of the overall tonnage, so you would guess that they should therefore have at least a quarter as many accidents, broadly speaking. In 2017, the Russians had one collision, and everyone was rescued.

The world knows about your military. Yes, it's really big. Well done. But we also know about how few of your wars you have won when you haven't had someone holding your hand, (I mean even your independence was gifted to you by the French, and yet you still hate them for it!). And Europe and Russia also remember your shameful cowardly delay in WW2. And about Vietnam. And Korea, and Somalia, and Afghanistan, etc etc etc. I guess they don't teach that stuff in the USA. Just keep repeating 'We're superior, we're superior!' to get you through it.

And now thanks to your laughable politics, you have fewer friends than ever. Just as well other countries still allow you to set up military bases on their land to protect you from your ever-growing enemies! It kind of makes sense that you have to go and smooth-talk Russia to stay in their good books.

Don't worry though, the USA are top at quite a few things, take a look:

Richest single country - Qatar
Largest nuclear arsenal - Russia
Largest army - China
Most technologically advanced (UN T.A index) - Finland
Fastest growth in science / technology - Iran
Most open government (WWWF Open Data) - UK
Most free press - Norway
Best educated in Maths / Science - South Korea
Least corrupt - Denmark
Highest incarceration rate - USA
Highest obesity level - USA

GO 'MURICA!!

This joke is so old and 100% false. It's been told for at least 40 years. There is even a 1931 cartoon from a Canadian newspaper that depicts this scenario. Check it out for yourself.
