Why wouldn't senators want Telsa on the dealer board? Simple, because Tesla sells direct from the manufacturer without dealers. All other car manufacturers have dealers that mark up the cost price of the vehicle and make a profit. Some of that profit goes to a salesman as commission. Tesla uses their own employees who work for the Tesla corporation. Many states either made laws to prohibit the sale of Teslas this way or are working on making it illegal.

Look for the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association (VADA) lawsuit to stop Tesla from opening a second dealership in the state because Virginia law makes it illegal for a manufacturer to own or operate a dealership. It is a bogus law designed to prohibit manufacturers from opening a dealership that competes with existing franchises. Tesla does not have any franchises so it really doesn't apply but some states are trying to use that law against them anyway.
