Is Moscow really more expensive than Tokyo? Does it cost more to live in Hanoi than Stockholm? What are your experiences?

I went to buy my missus a fur coat in Moscow at the shop opposite my hotel. Starting price: £20,000. Maybe not.

Where I live it's really cheap because little Neo (3) and my baby girl Ocean (1)needed three sets of cupboards and they were only eighteen pounds, trust me - and my husband Hayden (who is 16, I am 15) says that where we live it's brill cheap.

London is probably the most expensive I think cuz that's were Burberry is made and I know cuz my sister works there and I get free Burberry and once when I went there I saw this top for £190 and a cap that cost £90. Now that's pretty expensive. And yes Elise, 99s are 99p so don't worry.

The cost of renting in Moscow is very high. Living on the other hand is not too bad. Of course living on a Russian salary is next to impossible. The reason flats are so pricy in Moscow is because while you pay the equivalent to other countries, what you are getting is a rat hole. The vast majority of places for rent wouldn’t be marketable in other cities. So when there is a “Euro-renovated” flat they charge as if you had of view of Big Ben. Though in reality it only comes up to the minimal standard expected in the West.

Basis for the survey was expat cost of living, rather than overall. A large apartment (to fit a small family in) targeted for expats can set you back astronomical amounts (by UK standards). Cost for 3 bed, 1,500 sq. ft. flat - 24,000 pounds per year.

Also a place like Planet Hollywood or TGI Fridays in London or the UK, a burger 'n' fries is around £10 without a drink, add £3 for a drink in one of these places, and the house prices FFS £500 a month for a "studio apartment " near London is a joke.

£10.90 for two half cocktails??????? London reigns as mega dear on the drinks front. In Moscow a litre of vodka is about 2 pounds.

Robbo: just becasue their local currency blows doesn't mean that you still can't buy a burger for a dollar. And when comparing international prices you have the choice of dollar or euro, second of which is preferred since the US economy has sky dived to hell. I am guessing this list is comparing a certain life standard and how much it would cost to maintain that in the different cities as to which I would back it up. You can live with 2 dollars a day in Moscow but if you are hungry and you'd like something respectful - dig deep into your pockets!

Prague, Czech Republic can not be here, I was paying the equivilent of 19p a beer there, me and six friends went out we all had at least 5 beers each, some a lot more and a huge meal and it cost £5 a head. The cheapest city I have ever visited.

I don't believe Moscow is more expensive so far as cost of living is concerned, I believe Harare, Zimbabwe has to be the most expensive city in the world, with inflation running at about 1100%.. it doesn't even feature on the list so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

I've been the Hong Kong and Shenzhen and they are both cheap to live there, especially Shenzhen. I really don't understand how Hong Kong is listed above New York!!!

Travelling to Moscow in any form of safety costs a lot of money. Staying in Moscow in any suitable standard or safety costs a lot (£6.50 glass of beer in the hotel bar!). If you wish to walk around the city looking for cheaper bars etc and you are not Russian, or are not accompanied by a Russian, good luck!

Wot happened to Zimbabwe? It's like a billion Zimbabwean dollars for a loaf of bread, and in England we complain when it rises by five pence, what a laugh!

Graham, I don't know where you buy your burgers from in London but you can buy a burger from macdonalds for about £1.99. Oh yes and I would like to ask everyone is a 99 vanilla ice cream still 99p?

I am Irish and am very proud to say so but the cost of living in this country has got out of hand. A gallon of milk for example is 2 euros, a loaf of bred is near 2 euros, you can pay anything upto 4.50e for a pint of Budweiser and cigarettes are 6.50e for a twenty box. To live in an apartment in the city center of Cork your talking 1200e a month and at that you're not guaranteed a nice place to stay. This country is crazy for the cost of living, you get paid minimum wage for most jobs and when you get your weelky wage after paying rent and getting some food for the week you don't have much of a disposable income. Can't wait fo the day when I can get out of here and pay reasonable money for reasonable things!!! THIS GOVERNMENT HAS ALOT TO ANSWER FOR!!!

Tokyo is always hyped to be really expensive, but if you avoid the most pricey places (which the researchers obviously don't do!), you can live very well, very reasonably. London is way more expensive in almost every category, especially eating out and accommodation.

In Moscow, the expensive part is that you need to bribe your way through EVERYTHING. Also, if you have anything worth nicking you effectively have to pay for your own police.
