Something else to blow up and cause radiation for years to come. Haven't we learnt our lesson? Chernobyl! K-19! Surely these are at least two things in which we should have learnt our lessons! What's to stop that thing tipping over and releasing the radiation?

Do you have any concept of history? History is the study of things that happened in the past. For the record this project was discontinued because of chernobyl. Secondly, chernobyl killed less than 30 people, how many people do you think have dies in coal mines in the last 200 years?? Also nuclear fission technology and safety management has improved leaps and bounds since the 60s, it is essentially a safe clean source of power.

56 direct deaths at time of explosion and a recorded 4000 related deaths with 600,000 affected still living .. hardly less than 30 !! Then there's the effluents they emit and discharge into the environment .. then there's the mining of the ores needed to make the fusion materials, then there's the storage of nuclear by-product watse .. yeah, really clean and really sustainable .. yeah RIGHT !! Do some homework before spouting sh1t !

cont'd You hit on the one current issue which is disposal of the waste product. Fortunatly we have more than enough space to safely store enough spent uranium to power the planet for at least a thousand years, by which point a solution will be found. My favourite concept for this is LIFE, being researched at the NIF, look it up.

cont'd To cancel all nuclear fission research and usage based on one (admittadley tragic) accident is insane. And don't spout this three-mile island stuff, that was even less catastrophic. It's a good job the rest of the world didn't think like you, or the industrial age would have ended the first time a steam boiler exploded!

cont'd I've done my homework, I have a physics degree, and I have studied nuclear power extensively both historic and current. I guess you're the sort of person who would avoid having an MRI scan if they called it by it's full acronym NMRI?

4000 related deaths = a raise in cancer rates in the surrounding area comparable to the raise in cancer rates experienced by the rest of the world. 600,000 effected means 600,000 people who got a HARMLESS dose of radiation, the same that may be experienced by going for a MRI scan. Mining of Uranium is not anywhere near as dangerous as mining coal, or as difficult as "mining" oil.

It's probably got a lid on it, this would stop the spillage, are you jealous that the Russians thought of it first.
