Atheism - The belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason what so ever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs. Makes perfect sense

Christianity - The belief that God, who was already there, created everything by speaking, including a human cuple ,a tree from which nobudy should eat and a talking snake. Makes perfect sense . . . NOT

So perhaps no one has a clue of where everything came from. Scientists try to figure it out with hypothesis and proof (and keep reworking it as they learn more); religions make up a grandiose story and stick to it no matter what Ė discounting what other religions says as ridiculous and calling the science they donít understand ridiculous. ...I'm with the scientists.

Latest comment: So the bit about being smart was a lie, maybe you have a penchant for Big Macs too!!! He meant that a thin, smart American can only exist in a make believe world.

I'm not sure if the low rating on this one means that hordes of religious nuts have taken offence to what Stephen Fry has to say or, more likely, it represents the average IQ of the average visitor to this site these days, who comes here looking for "pranks" and car crashes.

I was an atheist at one time. And like many atheists, the issue of people believing in God bothered me greatly. What is it about atheists that we would spend so much time, attention, and energy refuting something that we don't believe even exists?!

He says that we have created a deity because of our own lack of self confidence as humans. We should marvel at our own "divinity" not at some imaginary man in the sky.
