They're just happy. Without any cynicism or pretense of superiority like British people. When British people come to America they are automatically taken down a peg or two. I've been to England, and I must say, I found it to be one of the rudest countries on earth.

When I (a Brit) have been to the States, I have actually found quite the reverse. I find Americans usually credit me with more respect when they hear my accent (I admit this is unwarranted, but that's how it seems to be perceived). There are rude/polite friendly/unfriendly people in both countries. I guess what goes around comes around: if you find Brits rude, I would start to wonder what you are doing to produce the rudeness from others.
