TYT - At last, people starting to believe climate change is real

TYT - At last, people starting to believe climate change is real

(7:43) Post Hurricane Sandy poll by Zogby Analytics shows the majority of Americans believe climate change is real, serious and needs dealing with. The Young Turks discuss the findings.

Since 1985, every single month has been higher than average? I don't think so. I remember in 1990, it snowed in Florida for the first time (that I lived here). That is after 1985. Also, when did "Global Warming" change to "Climate Change"? I agree that the climate changes -- that's why we have 4 seasons. I do not agree with Global Warming. Of course if you pick a small portion of time as most of the data shows, you can make it look like the temperature is higher than ever before but that is not true when you look beyond the data the media shows you.

Nice to see someone else with a brain in their head. Remember the scare years ago when we were heading into another ice age? Whatever happened to that? (Or maybe I am dating myself). Anyway, I guess it will take another 10 years or so before people start to admit that this is just foolish propaganda making governments billion of dollars/Pounds etc. This year happens to be a record breaker for the least amount of tornadoes in the States...Wonder how the doom and gloomers are going to fit that into their computations? Scientifically, warmer weather should lead to LESS storms (Less contrast in temps which is what drives storms) so Global warming should cut down on severe weather, somehow they have twisted natural phenomena in their heads and think that MORE sever weather is caused by global warming. Seems they want their cake and eat it too. LOL

In the 70s, many scientists did indeed predict we were heading for an ice age. It was thought that the cooling effect of pollution (known as global dimming) would have more effect than the heat trapping nature of greenhouse gases. In the 80s it became clear that the planet was actually warming. By the way, you're wrong about "warmer weather should lead to LESS storms". Just think what happens when you heat up a cup of water, eventually it boils.

WalterEgo... Sorry, but the planet is not a glass of water, what you said has no relevance on the "Global warming" Phenomenon. sure, if we got to the boiling point of water there would be a lot of water in the atmosphere through evaporation but I think we would all die before we get to that stage. If you look up the conditions that drive weather you will find that it is the contrast in weather temperature and humidex that drives severe weather. Global warming (Climate change) believers insist that the average temps across the world are rising... Therefore we should see either a consistency in the severe weather because if cold temps rise a bit and warm temps rise a bit the contrasting conditions are basically the same or, if it is that the cold temperatures are not as cold and catching up to the warmer temperatures, then the severity of storms will diminish. because they are driven by contrast, the more contrast the more severe storm and vice verse. Either scenario would not have an increase in severe weather, so as I said before, You people want your cake and eat it too...Does not make sense! Just look up..........waaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaay UP, There is a rather large gaseous ball that is pretty hot and bright, That is what drives the weather on this little planet, always has and always will! :-)

And then, remember the link I posted about the average global temperatures of the world for the past? Well, I recently found another one that goes even further back. You can clearly see that the temperature change is a typical cycle that the earth goes through because it shows you the times when humans did not roam the earth were the hottest periods. LINK Note that in the last 500,000 years, there have been 4 major temperature spikes that are much higher than where we are currently. One more point. We just got out of the little ice age period so of course our temperature is rising if you are short-sided enough to look just that far.

I'm sorry but that post made sense to me. It looks like dananddiana has done some studying of the the real "science" behind global warming, unlike that useful idiot rossglory. Maybe rossglory should go away and do a degree in a relevent subject like physics insead of sociology and then he would be able to do informed comments

don't you just love it when people try to insult you yet are unable to argue a point logically, I guess the one with the biggest bad-est insults wins :-)

I am so sorry my post was gibberish to you, I would suggest a dictionary and a book or two on meteorology, that should help. You are welcome :-)

WalterEgo, did you know that 78.6% of all statistics are made up on the spot? So I don't believe that 98% of climate scientists disagree with me. I have done my own research and discovered that there are more scientists that do not believe the planet is warming. Then, those that did were asked if they thought that humans were the cause and most of those people said no. The media has been successful in their campaign to confuse people into thinking that our cars are the #1 reason for any climate change and that is simply not true. Remember from previous posts, I proved that volcanoes produce more CO2 than our cars do. Besides, when you see governmental studies about carbon production, that's exactly what it is. Carbon -- not necessarily CO2 which is a gas. Some of the other carbon is solid and some is liquid. Besides, CO2 is only one of many green house gases and is not the most important one. The biggest greenhouse gas is water vapor. Think that water vapor is cause by us humans?

98% of climate scientists disagree with you. What makes you think you know better? And about your cold 1990 winter in Florida, I think we can presume they were citing global average figures rather than Floridian.

"Global Warming" changed to "Climate Change" because when days got cold, people got confused. The difference between climate and weather seems beyond the comprehension of the general public. I'm not saying the public are stupid, just that there's a tendency to jump to conclusions if reality is counter-intuitive. As greenhouse gases trap more heat, it goes without saying that there will be more energy in the atmosphere, resulting in more extreme weather, which also means cold records will be broken! Last I heard, in every 35 temperature records broken, 1 is a cold record. That is a scary statistic.

Now that you mention it, that does read like gibberish. Let me simplify. The weather is getting more extreme. Overall, it is getting warmer and wetter. The term "climate change" more accurately describes what is happening than the term "global warming".

There was also a political reason for changing to "climate change". On a particularly cold day, climate change deniers would argue that the planet could not be warming because it was colder than usual. It was the word "warming" in "global warming" that was confusing them. Using the term "climate change" instead, solved that problem.
