Odd that for many people, the less data that support their beliefs...

Odd that for many people, the less data that support their beliefs the more ardently they'll defend them, even w/their lives. Tweet from astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (b. 1958). More homepage quotes

Mr. Tyson raises a valid point with alot of independantly funded and peer reviewed research to support it. So does this learning come from? Is it from our families values? Is it from the printed press? Is it from prominate religous leaders in our communities? Mr. Tyson statement should be researched to find out where these unfounded beleifs come from.

I'm the exact opposite. I require more data, not less. That's why I do not believe humans are the cause of global warming. I need proof, not just the results of a survey.

You don't require more data, you just don't have enough data to prove an outcome to your liking. If 97% of peer reviewed climate papers in that last 10 years said that humans were NOT responsible for climate change, you'd be happy with that. Roger and out.

A survey does not prove a hypothesis. Repeatable experiments and predictable observations can prove it.

Not true. We have observations of history and other planets. History shows that the warming that we are experiencing is not unusual and is a typical cycle the earth goes through even without human intervention. Of course when you view Al Gore's hockey stick graph that limits the amount of data viewed, it does look like it's an extraordinary event but if you are open to looking beyond what is presented you will find more data that doesn't support the hypothesis.

Also when people don't have proof of something and are challenged, they resort to name calling.

When you say "reality," you are referring to what you believe and not what is fact. At this point, the hypothesis does not match the facts so I will not be forced to believe. Sorry if you are weak enough to be a blind follower but I am not.

Classic confusion between "skepticism" and "denialism". Hopefully your day job doesn't involve creating public policy at any level.

I think the quote is pretty representative of people's behavior when they want something to be true. I find most people really do not know what they are talking about, but they have some need to hear themselves talk, even if they cannot prove it. and then they resort to namecalling.

and since the westboro baptist church keeps telling us what's true and what's not, it must mean that most people who call them the scum of the earth, really do not know what they are talking about, but they have some need to hear themselves talk, even if they cannot prove it. and then they resort to namecalling. this is your logic! it applies to islam, christianity, the holocaust etc. IDIOT!

Very typical of the Greenish AGW alarmists. The more their falsehoods fall apart under the onslaught of facts, the more rabid they become in their defence of the undefendable.
