The Dual Carbon Battery

The Dual Carbon Battery

(3:54) Is this the breakthrough so badly needed in battery technology? If claims by Power Japan Plus for their dual carbon Battery turn out to be true, then maybe. PowerJapanPlus.com

They seem to have a conflict with their statements. They claim the battery contains nothing but carbon but their explanation of how it works at 2:47 says the positively charged lithium ions go to the carbon anode and the negatively charged ions go to the carbon cathode. How in the world can it have lithium ions in its electrolyte if it contains nothing but carbon?

They are selling a bunch of BS.

it's not for sale yet so they're not selling BS. see 3:35 , it will eventually be made entirely out of carbon.

As it is now it's still organic and biodegradable.

When you say it's not for sale yet, that's false. They have been making the batteries for specialized purposes like medical devices and satellites.

They selected the term "organic" as a marketing tool. It means nothing in this case. In chemistry, organic just means it contains carbon so of course it's organic and so is everything that contains carbon. They are probably trying to confuse the public into thinking it’s like organic food which has a completely different meaning for organic. After researching this, it seems they mean organic because the carbon is new — grown from cotton. You cannot grow carbon that way. Carbon was made out of solar matter and will always be carbon. Regardless if you dig carbon up, take it out of the CO2 from the atmosphere, or extract it from cotton, it’s still carbon without any chemical difference.

What do you mean by biodegradable? Isn't carbon already at it's lowest level of degradation? It’s not like that carbon is going to degrade to hydrogen or something else because it’s a stable element.

They are selling something — a concept. That concept of containing nothing but carbon is false. Even when that rolls out to the general public and is ready for sale, it will have to contain something other than carbon for it to work. If they want to have the anode and cathode both made out of carbon, so be it. Just don’t lead the public into thinking the entire battery is made of carbon because it cannot be. The video at 1:30 says, “The only active ingredient in the battery is carbon” and the words on the screen says “Contains No: Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt.” This is terribly misleading because it does contain lithium even though later they say it doesn't contain lithium oxide. Lithium oxide is a molecule not pure lithium or some other lithium compound.

If it was made entirely of carbon.......it would be coal, right?
