Ever is a long time. The earth is only going to be here for a finite time. So is the sun for that matter. To live for ever one would have to entertain the fact that there will be a few billion years of floating around in the lonely, cold, empty, black, void of deep space. Watching the stars going out one by one until nothing but blackness…. For ever. Now think about how mere weeks in solitary confinement not only is considered punishment but also sends people insane.

He didn't answer it at all, he sidestepped it. "Would you like the pasta or the soup"? "Something else please"

If you're hell-bent on getting a direct answer to his question then yes, but what he provided was of much greater value.
