Said it before - will say it again. The USA seems not to care about the actual person who is voted into the office of President, several of whom have been objects of ridicule. It only appears to be the political party which gets elected and to hell with the candidate's real persona.

For example, GW Bush was a clod who made himself an international laughing stock by the things he said or did in full view of the assembled media. Then came Barack Obama. Whatever you think of his politics, he came over as a statesman who was often likeable and intentionally funny.

Now, for some reason that I cannot fathom, this charlatan, this buffoon, this thin-skinned, childishly spiteful parody of a man managed to get elected and things are worse now than when Bush was the President.

The old adage that 'any publicity is good publicity' has been proven woefully wrong. Trump is slitting his own throat by degrees and, when he finally bleeds out and vanishes, maybe America will look hard for someone who can act like a grown up and do the country some credit, because Trump certainly can't.
