How a Swedish submarine sank an American aircraft carrier

(7:05) In 2005, a Swedish Gotland-class submarine sank the newly constructed $6.2 billion dollar aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan during a wargaming exercise in the Pacific Ocean. So how did a small submarine defeat the might of the US navy?

Ah back in the good old days when a tiny European country could take pot shots at the US without being detected. These days, the US navy have shown they don't need opponents to crash their ships or kill their sailors. They can do that themselves perfectly well.

Nowhere in this demonstration did you mention the anti-torpedo devices(s) incorporated in the USS Ronald Reagan. These are basically underwater missiles designed to intercept incoming torpedos. The story of the Ronald Reagan being "virtually sunk" by the small submarine is pure bunk.

Sources please. I can't find anything that says USS-RR had developed SSTD systems back in 2015. The US navy are currently rolling out such measures with a goal of 2035 so I'm interested to see what they had 3 years ago.

Anyway, you seem to know what you're talking about so I'll look forward to seeing the spec.

Go figure. He didn't have any sources to back up his claims. A perfect demo of "pure bunk" then.

Debunked or not, this could be a good opportunity for some to lobby for an increase in war budget.
