Watching for nuclear attack at the top of the world

(2:59) In the far north of Canada sit the DEW Line stations: "Distant Early Warning". Built in the 1950s, these were the sites that would have sounded the alarm if the Soviet Union ever attacked North America. Tom Scott YT channel

"Shortest distance between Russia and the United States is over the north pole."  Not really.  If you consider  Big and Little Diomede are only 2 miles apart, you can take a row boat across.  Also, Russia is only about 55 miles away from Alaska and you don't need to go over the North Pole to get there.

That is open for debate.  The first one, in my opinion, was needed to quickly end the war.  If we did not use it, the war could have continued for another decade causing even more death and destruction than what was caused by the nuke.

The United States used the second one a couple days later and that was too soon.  They should have waited until it was determined the unconditional surrender wasn't coming before using it again.

You're obviously from the USA, no one else in the world thinks it was necessary. An indiscriminate massacre of hundreds of thousands of civilians which was little more than a revenge attack after the Japanese humiliated you at Pearl Harbour. It's amazing that you've been trained to defend such a disgusting act.
