Seems to me that anyone in the UK was allowed to invest in the emerging markets.  If Jacob was successful, good for him.  If he lost money, would that have made the news?  Doubtful.  Should politicians be required to sell all their shares of stocks they held since the beginning of time just because they are now politicians?    My opinion is no.  But maybe like a CEO of a company buying and selling shares of his own company, that is public record and known in advance of the transactions.  Perhaps you could make it known which investments are bought and sold so the public can invest in the same things if they wish.

the point is that he is trying to drive government policy and create widespread change in the UK which could ruin the lives of millions just to make some money personally. That is a conflict of interest and corrupt as hell.

Declaring it untrue so confidently suggests you've already made up your mind... but in case you're genuinely interested, Rees Mogg is a major shareholder in an emerging-markets investment company (with nearly 10billion dollars).  Not only is that company bound to do well when people starting shifting their money out of the UK, but it is managed by subsidiaries in tax havens which the EU were trying very hard to clamp down on.

Why is “ that company bound to do well when people start shifting their money out of the UK “ . Give me one example where money has left the UK due to Brexit , been invested by Mogg’s company as a direct or indirect consequence of such and has made a single penny in doing so .

The Investment Company he is involved with is multinational , as are Tax Havens that are under no control from the EU . Their investments can be successful as well as unsuccessful. They have made a profit and been successful and I am pleased for them rather than feel bitter and twisted at their good fortune.

I disagree with many of Mogg’s ideals but to try and get the mud to stick in this way just does not sit well when it is quite frankly untrue.

Be honest, you had no idea about Somerset Capital did you?  Thought not.  You just said it was untrue before you knew his affiliations.

You know perfectly well that no one is going to be party to the kind of direct paper trail you're expecting as 'proof'. However, use some common sense...

Investment in UK industry has pretty much frozen since the referendum, and UK stocks have dropped.

Can you see how this could benefit an investment company that specialises in emerging markets (which will be less affected by Brexit)?  Particularly one that relatively recently set up a base in Dublin - international now, as you yourself admit.  Coincidence of course.

And can you see how someone who keeps most of his substantial wealth overseas would not be too concerned about repercussions of a hard Brexit?

And with the are clamping down on tax havens, do you see why someone who benefits so extensively from them might be fighting to leave the EU for reasons that are not philanthropic or political?  Now that doesn't sit well with me.

As for proving it, Rees Mogg was questioned about the most recent windfall he gained from the company (estimated £7m) and he said "The amount that I received is not for public disclosure."  Of course not.

I actually applaud him for what he's managed to do, but history will not be kind to him nor to the sheep that trotted along behind him so trustingly.  Disaster capitalism, anyone?

Poor special needs traitor doesn't realise he's doing exactly what he's criticising.

Did you find the FT, or have your puppet masters banned you from reading such Marxist propaganda with such meany twicky words to wead?

I guess that sums up the Daily Mail reader base.  Popping a blood vessel about Corbyn, the scary Muslims, communists and gypsies, but not able to string a coherent sentence together.
