What it took to get a picture of a black hole

What it took to get a picture of a black hole

(12:51) At the heart of our Milky Way, there's a supermassive black hole that feeds off a spinning disk of hot gas, sucking up anything that ventures too close - even light. PhD student at MIT Katie Bouman explains how she and a team of astronomers planned to take the first picture of a black hole. TEDtalks 2017.

As it turns out, the image they produced is not from the Super Black Hole in our galaxy.  They decided to use a much larger Super Black Hole in another galaxy to produce the image.  Also, the final image produced shows a ring of fire but that is just an artist’s rendition of it.  The Black hole is not producing visible light, it’s producing radio waves.  Still in the electromagnetic spectrum but much higher up and not visible to humans.  An artist then took the radio waves and converted it to an orange/yellow color manually.  S/he could have picked blue/white or any other color scheme but they used the orange/yellow for dramatic effect because they felt that’s what the public would want it to look like.
