This is precisely why Boris has done such a terrible job and tackling it in the UK.  We have next to no credible idea of how many cases we have or how many further people those cases are infecting, because we're not testing or tracking people unless they have to go to hospital.  We don't even have the testing kits.  

I hope that the wave of nostalgic patriotism won't get in the way of holding the cabinet responsible for their catastrophic mishandling of the crisis.

Not much chance of that happening. Given the usual slew of half truths, spin, outright lies, omitted facts, selective truth and flat out ignorance, the possibility of a politician taking responsibility for any of it it on a par with Trump telling the truth. Somewhere between very slim and bugger all.
