Unusual to be so proud of a poor education.

That's sad.  I guess whether it's a household name depends on your household.  I'd venture to say any household where someone is working in (or has studied) science wouldn't find it too hard to pick 5.  They're not as well-known though, but let's face it, many households would struggle to name 5 scientists full stop.

Marie Curie was awarded the Nobel Prize twice, her daughter once. 51 more women were awarded that prize.

Marie Curie daughter's nobel prize was "jointly" with her husband too. 51 accounts for just 3.3% of total awards. Probably a figure thats more representive of the historic disadvantages for women but it's why female scientists are generally not household names. Comparatively they are far and few between. Yes not right but sadly fact. Let's hope in this now more equal world this figure truly balances and are not massaged at the the expense  more deserving scientists to simply be seen as PC.

Since you're so obsessing about "jointly", how many men were awarded the Nobel Prize "jointly" and why does it make them less worthy?

Latest comment:

Think what he (assume is a he) is saying is that if you remove all the "joint" awards then you are left with even a smaller per percentage of female vs male.

Think "shared" is term used for nobel prizes so individually they are less worthy than those awarded to a single recipient.
