Black man gets pulled for doing 65 in a 70

Black man gets pulled for doing 65 in a 70

(4:48) From YT: "According to WRAL, a spokesman for the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said leaders there would review the in-car camera of the deputy involved. “Should personnel action be necessary, we will take appropriate action,” he said, noting that Perry has not filed a formal complaint."

The guy was given a 'warning'. For what? Being a law abiding driver? Being black in public? Not giving the cop a reason to do anything else?  This is patently bullshit of the worst kind.

There was no reason to pull him over. The allegedly friendly chatter was simply probing to see if there was a reason to take matters further, in my estimation. Then, when everything was found to be legal and above board, a 'warning' issed for no specific reason and no questions answered about what it meant.

It's infuriating.

That cop was a child. He backed off scared. I don't know what police training is like in the US, but in Ireland, you're taught to make small talk, to be inquisitive, because if someone is trying to hide something, you can make them nervous enough to let it slip. Call it basic conversation training, if you want.

The cop in the video knew he made a mistake, didn't handle it properly,  and he tried to run off. The young, fresh, green cop shouldn't be the issue. The whole fucking system should be the issue. The training that says, "never give them an inch. Never give them the upper hand." Give them a warning, at least, but never let the public see weakness. Whereas the police are supposed to serve the public. Protect the public. And at least respect the public.

I used to love America. Now I'm afraid to even visit.

I've watched the video a couple of times. First thing to my mind was that stopping someone who drives within the legal speed limit needs a reason. Doubtless, there were plenty of other drivers faster and slower than this guy, so why pick him out with such a crappy excuse? 'Friendly conversation' is unnecessary, particularly if the civilian isn't feeling friendly - as he said, the chatter had no bearing on WHY he was pulled over. Given the way cops are viewed in the USA, I don't blame the dude for being close mouthed and trying to get the incident behind him.

The "warning" part is the bit that kills it for me. It's the worst kind of fuckery. The cop said there was no court and no fine but was issuing a warning without telling the guy what it was for. If it has been for a defective light or erratic driving, the whole thing would have made sense but a warning has to have a reason and the cop had NO reason.  Whether he's inexperienced or not, the cop had no defensible reason to stop this man and points toward a wider, more sinister issue with law enforcement in America.

God, this makes my blood boil.  Hats off to the gentleman for not losing his cool.

If this doesn't outrage every US citizen, then they really have been hoodwinked.

I think you might be the nicest person in these comments.

Black lives matter. But while we keep saying BLACK lives matter, we reinforce the idea that black and white lives are something different to each other. This video says "Black man pulled over", if it said "man pulled over", the difference wouldn't exist. Yes, black people are stereotyped in the US, and in a lot of other places. Yes, people of that colour have been, and continue to be prejudiced against. But until we can all say "We are all humans", that divide will always exist.

Fuck racism. Fuck sexism. Fuck feminism. Fuck affirmative action. Fuck everything that makes you angry, so angry that you have to invent a name for your cause. Fuck left vs right, fuck totalitarianism vs pure, unbridled anarchy. Put down your flag, and take a look at your fellow human. We're all communists, we're all capitalists. We're all idealists. We all want the best for the world, but we forget that "the world" includes everybody else too. Forget about history and imagine a better future. One where we're not judged by skin colour, or ancestry, or political views, or religious views. One where a person is judged on their own merits, and not how much mummy or daddy could afford to educate you. One where the news doesn't have to differentiate between black or white. Let's let go and move forward.

Please.
